First name?

[edit]

Was his first name Ambrose at birth, or was it one of those things adopted to fit the job? The article doesn't say, and the coincidence of his being named Ambrose at birth seems pretty amazing. HuskyHuskie (talk) 18:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When I was writing the article, I didn't come across anything that suggested that he ever changed his name and the 1900 Census has his name as Ambrose Burke, long before he would have been able to change his name. Since his family was religious, it might not be as a big of a coincidence as it may seem, as they probably named him after the saint, perhaps even knowing about the nearby school.
