I love the new picture

[edit]

but there was (opinion) too much caption under the picture, so I moved it here for now in case someone wishes to discuss it.

"established and designed the country's first outdoor sculpture museum called Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina. She became one of America's foremost animal sculptors and was best known for her wild and domestic animals as well as heroic monuments."

The "(opinion)" is written by the Smithsonian Institution, if that carries any weight? — raeky (talk | edits) 14:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My thought was that most, if not all the points covered in the caption are (or should be) discussed in the text. I'm not sure that we can cop chunks of Smithsonian writing without giving them credit, but this is not about adding a footnote to the caption. In my way of thinking the old caption was probably used in lieu of an article, trying to fit as much in as is possible. Here, in wikipedia, I believe that the caption should tells us who the picture is of, and, if possible when it was taken, and then the article does the rest. Did you alos just add the Selma Burke picture and caption, because this chat could cover that too. Oh yes, when I use (opinion) it means that I am giving my opinion, not that there is opinion in the captions. I have a pretty solid trust for the Smithsonian, for all sorts of reasons.
