Metro station

[edit]

An IP editor from various addresses has, for some time now, been altering the "type" parameter of Template:Infobox station to variations on "Metro station", on this and other Melbourne Metro Rail Project articles. It has been reverted by Longhair and others because of the IP's unwillingness to reach consensus on the issue. However, given that there are many Melbourne station articles and their appearance should be consistent on this issue, I thought I would start a discussion on the issue.

The documentation for the infobox says that the type parameter should contain the name of the system and the type of the system. Currently, however, the majority of Melbourne station articles do not contain this parameter at all. As for type of system, Railways in Melbourne states, with a couple of references, that Melbourne's is a commuter rail network, which seems unlikely to be radically changed by the Metro Tunnel. (Correct me if I'm wrong beyond the government's spin.)

So I see three main options:

My preference is no parameter, simply because it's visual clutter that really doesn't add much to an encyclopaedic description of the station. Triptothecottage (talk) 08:09, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
