On April 19th, 2016, a large explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan, targeting a security team that protects government VIPs at a compound, killed at least 28 people and injured at least 327.[1] This attack was perpetrated by the Taliban.

A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle filled with explosives in a private parking lot behind the compound, destroying the back wall of a building. A second attacker then entered the building, who died less than 2 hours later. [2] The attack lasted in total four hours [3]. An Afghan security source said that the suicide attack caused a huge crater outside the compound and has destroyed most of the building.[4]

The high death casualty was due to a ceremony going on inside the compound to mark the competition of a training course for staff and guards at the department.[5]

Reactions

[edit]

A statement from the Taliban said "First a suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden lorry on the gate of the department and then other armed attackers went in and started shooting on the rest of the enemies."[6]

What does it mean:? "It was their biggest attack on an urban area since 2001.[1][2]" Biggest attack worldwide? Biggest attack in Afghanistan? Boggest attack by the Taliban? Biggest attack by the Taliban looking at urban places only? Please be clear and add the 2001 event wikilink. Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 06:35, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh, I can't say that, it's what news sources say, if I say my own version that's OR. --QEDK (TC) 09:52, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
