MIDI?

[edit]

A friend of mine claims that the ashbory bass is actually a MIDI instrument, which a chip inside gets the signal and then transformes it into the "contra bass like sound" it has.

Can anyone prove or disprove this? AnoreX 14:27, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the designers of the instrument discuss their instrument at some length on the 'official history page', but I suppose the clincher here would be examining the circuit board at Largesound. I'm not an electronics expert but it shouldn't be too hard to verify that the only 'chip' inside is an amplifier with a standard catalog number. --Peterleroux 01:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is NOT a MIDI instrument. Furthermore, the strings are acoustically at bass pitches and there is no digital manipulation of the tone. The rubber strings themselves generate the low bass tones the instrument creates. Each physical string is tuned to a proper bass pitch.

Tuning?

[edit]

Should we add something about the instrument being tuned exactly as a normal four string bass guitar (E-A-D-G)? People might think it's non-standard because of the short scale? Ango74 (talk) 07:28, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
