Fair use rationale for Image:Australia NOC symbol.png

[edit]

Image:Australia NOC symbol.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Funding

[edit]

this page says it's noteworthy that Australia finished 4th 4th and 6th in the last 3 games despite a population of only 20 million - but no mention of the fact that the Australian govt spends a disproportionate amount of money on trying to win gold medals (e.g. double what the Canadians spend - a comparable country http://www.nationalpost.com/scripts/feeds/story.html?id=2210902) http://www.watoday.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/hefty-price-tag-for-our-sporting-obsession-20091123-ixhq.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amaher (talkcontribs) 11:24, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medals by individual (Kieren Perkins)

[edit]

This list is currently incomplete (non-exhaustive). An anonymous IP editor pointed out that the list is missing "Lane, Pearce, Mockridge, Wenden, O'Neill, and others"

The fix by the anonymous IP editor was to remove Kieren Perkins, but I think that is the wrong way to fix this, as Kieren is one of the most famous Australian olympians of all time.

Instead I think that we should add Lane, Pearce, Mockridge, Wenden, O'Neill, etc to the list. Daceyvillain (talk) 00:36, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The list was exhaustive of everyone with 3 or more medals before edited by you. Kieren Perkins as one of the most famous Australian olympians is subjective to you. I would disagree in that opinion. He is however worthy of an article and he has one, and his achievements can be found on that page. Even on these lists | First and | Second after a quick search online he doesn't rate a mention among the greatest Australian Olympians of all time. The 3 medals is a clear metric and should remain. (If 2 is used then all people who qualify should be added for an exhaustive list. But it should not include Perkins or the others mentioned unless/until all are included at once. Until that time is should be reverted). MyacEight (talk) 03:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
