Expansion

[edit]

If this article is not going to be expanded, I think that it should be merged back into the Surma-Meghna River System article. If the topic is fully dealt with there, there is no need for a separate article here, and Barak River can just redirect to the appropriate section of that article. In June 2007 editors AA and Ragib expressed the opinion that this should be a separate article, yet almost all of the content here is from my edits to the Surma-Meghna River System article, or material I have added directly here. I would appreciate understanding the basis behind the opinions of editors AA and Ragib, especially in light of the statement in the Manual of Style that, It is a general consensus on Wikipedia that articles should not be split and split again into ever more minutiae of detail treatment, with each split normally lowering the level of notability. See, e.g. Wikipedia:Notability (fiction); Wikipedia:Notability (aircraft); and Wikipedia:Notability (books) and in general Wikipedia:Summary style#Avoiding unnecessary splits and Wikipedia:Content forking. --Bejnar (talk) 18:05, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Having received no response in two months, I have redirected this page to Surma-Meghna_River_System#Barak which contains all of the info that was here. --Bejnar (talk) 17:50, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National Waterway-6

[edit]

Does anyone have a citation for this? I removed the following text as crystal ball, especially since no citation was offered. --Bejnar (talk) 01:55, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

River Barak in Assam is also proposed to be declared as National Waterway-6 by Govt. of India and thereafter it will be developed with infrastructure facilities for commercial operations.

Ghagra River

[edit]

The Ghagra River (Assam) as a tributary of the Barak was not found. Does anyone have a citation for it? --Bejnar (talk) 01:55, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Length

[edit]

The length of the entire Surma-Meghna River System is 946 km, compare the rounded 900 km value at "Surma River". Encyclopædia Britannica.. The length of just the Barak portion is approximately 475 km. --Bejnar (talk) 01:55, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
