Maqbool Sherwani

[edit]

RaviSharma21, you have claimed that Maqbool Sherwani was a "resident" of Baramulla. Can you provide a reliable source for that? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 08:26, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes he was resident of Baramulla in October 1947 , Sources are: (1:https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Who-changed-the-face-of-47-war/articleshow/1200682.cms ,

RaviSharma21, I don't see where any of them says any such thing. Can you please provide a quotation that talks about his place of residence? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:47, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maqbool Sherwani, a young resident of Baramulla, had also contrived to buy some more time by misdirecting the invaders away from Srinagar. Source: https://medium.com/@vijayadar/my-story-of-kashmir-part-i-fd943876eeae. -- RaviSharma21 (talk) 12:06, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So, now we have a yet another source. This is a blog post. Not a reliable source. For historical facts, we need a WP:HISTRS (at least a scholarly source). -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:56, 16 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Area

[edit]

The article has a sentence:

The district covered an area of 4,190 km² in 2001 but it was reduced to 3,353 km² at the time of 2011 census.[1]

What the source says is: "The district is situated at 34.1980° N Longitude and 74.3636° E Latitude, extending over an area of 4190 km²". I will correct the article.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:08, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the 2011 census gives the area as 4,243 km².[2]

A Jammu and Kashmir Government website stated that the area before the 2006 reorganisation was 4,588 km².[3]-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:14, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There is a statement in the article posted at 05:02, 2 April 2019 by 136.232.8.34: "Actual area of district Baramulla according to 2018 survey by the centre for remote sensing and gis is 2204.06 sqkm." This is uncited, so I unless anyone objects I will delete it. But there is a source that says something like it:

  • Malik, Mudasir Majid; Tali, Javaid Ahmad; Nusrath, Asima (December 2017). "Assessment of Land Use and Land Cover Change in District Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir". Research & Reviews: Journal of Space Science & Technology. 6 (3). ISSN 2321-2837.

The authors are from the Department of Studies in Geography, University of Mysore, Mysore, Karnataka, India. The study uses remote sensing to measure land use changes in Baramulla District by comparing images for 1980 and 2014. It does not explicitly say that the study covers the entire district. The data on land use given is as follows:
