This is in great shape. Just a few comments:
- suggest "A Union charge quickly broke the Confederate position, and during the retreat and river crossing a rout ensued."
- Done
- "leveraging the Confederates out of their Grand Gulf fortifications" why was this? Lines of communication cut off or driven out by an assault by Union troops?
- Line of retreat threatened. Specified
- I'm not au fait with ACW divisions and whether they were ad hoc or relatively permanent, but is "Bowen's division" likely to be notable?
- Not likely. Essentially it was two brigades taken from a larger division that fought at the Second Battle of Corinth and assigned to Bowen at Grand Gulf in early '63. Division ended with Bowen's death around the Vicksburg surrender; it was pretty ad hoc.
- suggest redlinking 4th Mississippi Infantry Regiment (Confederate) and piping the link to "4th Mississippi Infantry Regiment" as there was a Union regiment with the same ordinal
- Changed
- is there something brief that can be added about why Kendall won the MoH?
- Added detail
- suggest "As of 2020[update] portions of the piers of the railroad bridge that existed during the battle still remain at the crossing of the Big Black River."
- Done
- not sure how this works in the US, but isn't there tension between "the battlefield itself is privately owned" and "The Civil War Trust has acquired and preserved 28 acres (11 ha) of the battlefield"?
- The CWT is a private nonprofit organization
- File:Battle of Big Black River Bridge map.jpg is obviously PD, but given there is no author given, I don't think the first part of PD-old-70-1923 applies, suggest PD-US-expired
- Done. Licensing ain't my strong suit.
- I am assuming competence and proper sourcing of the graphic detail of the File:VicksburgCampaignAprilJuly63.png map by Jespersen, but this is likely to be explored more rigorously at Milhist ACR and FAC
- Noted. This one isn't to a stage that I feel it's ready for an ACR. Ed Bearss wrote a landmark work on the Vicksburg campaign I currently don't have access to. I think it can be a GA without Bearss, but I don't think it meets the ACR or FAC comprehensiveness of sources without Bearss. Once things start to open back up, I'm gonna poke around a few university libraries I have access to to hunt down Bearss.
- XIII Army Corps appears in the infobox but is unmentioned in the body
- Mentioned now
That's it. Placing on hold for the above to be addressed. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 23:39, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
