Menorca, or Minorca

[edit]

What do we really call this engagement in English?
The article favours "Menorca" but it is imperfectly translated into English from Spanish.

At the time the English name was Minorca (and in my view still is).

[edit]

Both the Jackson and Thomas books are using "p. 861" as the reference.
That seems like a cloning error. Varlaam (talk) 18:33, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Battle or Surrender?

[edit]

This does not look like a battle to me. The British objective was a peaceful transfer of control from Republicans to Nationalists in the light of the recent fall of Catalonia, and protecting the Republican military. It may not have been completely peaceful, but does not seem to reached the level of a battle: the arrival of Nationalist occupiers was after the departure of Republican defenders. The Spanish article used "Rendición de Menorca" and I would have thought "Surrender of Minorca (1939)" would work here.
