[edit]The picture in this article states Grierson is seated with chin resting on his hand. The man resting his chin is Colonel William J. Landram and the man sitting on Landram's right is General Albert L. Lee. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.141.202.51 (talk) 04:32, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Copyright infringement - Rewrite?
[edit]I've discovered that this page is WP:COPYPASTE from https://acgsus.org/distinguished-macgregor-descendants/buffalo-soldiers/. Given General Grierson's well-documented history and commanding the 10th Calvary Regiment of Buffalo Soldiers, a re-write would be both necessary and important for the sake of historical preservation. - CopyTheEdit (talk) 18:21, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- The history page on the web site in June 2016 states: "This page is being continuously upgraded and corrected. At present we have only seven profiles to present. If you find any errors or you are aware of more details we should add, please contact us to let us know. Much of our information is derived from Wikipedia and therefore may not be totally accurate. Click on the person about whom you would like to learn more."
- Benjamin Grierson is one of the profiles on the web site in the same form it was in on Wikipedia in June 2016. However, on the Distinguished MacGregor Descendants page of the web site on August 17, 2015 there is only a list of names, not including Grierson. I conclude from that alone that the web article was copied from Wikipedia and not the other way around. All the web page links in the web page article link directly to Wikipedia pages. The Wikipedia article was started in 2004 and was not too far from its current form by 2016, when the web page article was last "updated", possibly even first posted.
- There are two footnote numbers in the web page article but no footnotes. Those footnote numbers are in the same place as the footnote numbers in this Wikipedia article. The web page also does not cite any sources.
- There is a copyright claim on every page of the website. That means nothing, at least here, because many web sites claim copyright on material that is copyrighted elsewhere or is public domain or open source. And of course there is the general attribution to Wikipedia noted above. My conclusion is that the web page copied the material from Wikipedia and thought the general notice on the history contents page was enough.
- I don't disagree that this article needs to be substantially rewritten with more references and footnotes. It has the problems suggested in the banner at the top of the page. I am just noting that there is no reason to say this page has a copyright violation since the web article was obviously copied from Wikipedia. Donner60 (talk) 04:40, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
