Suggested improvements

[edit]

I realise that this article is under construction. Please don't take anything in this section as criticism; I'm just trying to help an editor who knows the topic (but may be new to Wikipedia) to improve a promising page. (I apologise for telling experienced editors what they already know: please correct my mistakes and omissions.)

  1. Most importantly, the article would benefit greatly from a new References section quoting some reliable sources to back up the information in the article. I've looked for a few myself but failed, e.g. a search at grammy.com doesn't list Belle's awards. The existing references don't mention Belle, so they may be better presented as External links.
  2. Replace ''italics'' by [[wikilinks]] in those names of colleagues etc. which have articles, e.g. link to Michael Jackson. Some article titles may be longer than a simple name, e.g. Teddy Riley (producer).
  3. Whilst some songs such as Remember the Time are notable, some others will never realistically deserve their own articles, so we could replace their redlinks by simple text.
  4. Click on the blue links: a few such as Gospel and Today lead to unrelated articles. Each of these should be replaced by a more accurate link if it exists (e.g. Gospel music, Today (band)), a redlink if the topic is notable but doesn't have an article, or simple text otherwise.
  5. A few more categories such as Grammy Award winners and People from (Wherever) would be useful: there are many examples at the bottom of articles linked from here.
  6. Like most new pages, this page will be an orphan: few other pages will link here. Pages which already contain Belle's name could be improved by bracketing the first mention to form a wikilink. The pages this article links (or should link) to are good candidates; Special:Search/Bernard Belle lists others.

I could attempt some of this myself but I'm sure a subject expert could do it much better. Certes (talk) 22:03, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update: some work has been done but the article could still benefit from:

  1. references to prove he's notable (Blairsmom is working on this but other help is welcome)
  2. more categories - can anyone familiar with music categories help?
  3. more links into the page: I've added brackets to pages which already mention Belle but could his name usefully be added elsewhere?
