The page mixes the life histories of Bhai Mani Singh of village Kambowal and Mani Ram of village Aliwal near Multan,which should be deleted and split into two pages, one each on both of them.

     According to the facts sorted out in the literature on the topic, Bhai Mani Singh was born at village Kambowall,now an uninhabited mound in the

revenue limits of Laungowal,in the house of Kala, a brother of Bhai Diala,who got martyred along with Guru Teg Bahadur at Delhi. Of the same age as Guru Gobind Singh,born around 1665, he was retained by Guru Teg Bahadur, to provide company to Dasmesh,when the family visited Anandpur, where they learnt Persian from Munshi Pir Mohammad and the art of fighting as a routine. A brother of Bhai Mani Singh ,Nigahia, was married,who had seven sons, three of whom got their names registered in Sikh history, but Bhai Mani Singh was a celebate'.He was a scholar,Masaddi,who used to prepare the copies of the Granth Sahib and parts thereof called Granthies.He accompanied Guru Gobind Singh to Paunta where he used to

take part in poetic symposiums and fought in the battles of Bhangani etc. He was baptized by Guru Gobind Singh himself in1699 when the Khalsa 

Panth was created. He was sent to Amritsar to take charge of Harmandar Sahib,but was soon called back to join the battles with the Hill Rajas. When Guru had to leave Anandpur and the family got separated while crossing the river Sirsa,he escorted the wives of the Guru to Delhi after getting them dressed in Muslim clothes.On learning that the Guru was at Talwandi Sabo he escorted Sundriji, the Guru"s wife to that place,where a copy of the Granth Sahib was prepared/procured and authenticated by Guru Gobind Sungh after adding the writings of the ninth Guru. He accompanied the Guru to Delhi, Agra and Deccan and after his death there he brought the Guru's wife ,Sahib Devan, to Delhi. He accompanied Guru's maternal uncle,

Kirpal, to Amritsar where he acted as the head priest of the Harmandar Sahib,started preaching Sikhism through the Giani prampra,collected the
poetry written  during the the times of the  tenth Guru,  prepared the Dasam Granthand wrote two books Gian Ratnavali andSikhan Di Bhagat Mala""

.He also resolved the conflict between the Tatt Khalsa and the Bandai Khalsa. He baptized hundreds of Sikhs including Nawab Kapur Singh and

killed  Har Sahai, the ruler of Patti in a battle. After obtaining the permission from the Governor of Lahore on the promise of paying Rs.5000.to
celebrate  Diwali,he gave  a call to the Sikhs to gather at Amritsar,but the governor deputed  Lakhpat Rai to exterminate the Sikhs on their arrival. 

The scheme leaked and Bhai Mani Singh sent them the messages for not to come. This affected the offerings and his ability to pay the promised money to the state,where upon he was called to Lahore and given the choice of joining Islam or facing the death. He chose the later so he was

done to death by cutting at all the joints of his body at Nikhasatkhana/Shahid Ganj at Lahore in 1737."" Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, Kesar Singh 

Chhibbar, a contemporary (1699-1769), who interacted with Bhai Mani Singh twice at the age of 28 and 37, Sher Singh Sher, G.S.Nayar,a Frof

of History and  the editor of Panjab History  Conferrence Proceedings, Major Gurmukh Singh Warraich of Encyclopedia of Sikhism, Principal
Satbir Singh ,all non Kamboj scholars and Kirpal Singh Dardi and others have asserted that Bhai Mani Singh was born in the village Kambowal
and he belonged to the Kamboj community.
     The second view was propounded by Giani Gian Singh  in 1870, two centuries after the birth of Mani Singh , in the second edition of his
Panth Parkash.There is no mention of this in the first, which shows that it was an afterthought. Here he traces his descent to Bhai Nigahia, 

a brother of Bhai Mani Singh,holding that the Dulatts are the descendants of Mani Singh"s family. But he gives three years of Dulatts inhabiting

in Laungowal at different places--1731,1741 and1749-- which are contradictory .However whichever of these may be taken as true Mani Singh 

can not be their ancestor because he was born in 1665, and when Dulatts came here, either he was too old or had died. No wonder the scholars

like Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha ,Sant Singh Sekhon, Major Gurmukh Singh Warriach, Kirpal Singh Dardi, Parkash Singh Jammu have rejected these .
     Giani Garja Singh put forward an other idea in 1961, three centuries after the birth of Bhai Mani Singh,through Shahid Bilas,edited by him,

forworded by Piar Singh and propagated by Piara Singh Padam etc,which may be characterized as the Rajpute group,that Mani Singh was a Pawar Rajpute of Alipur near Multan. The original manuscript has been stated to have been written in Bhattakhshari script by Sewa Singh son of Kesar Singh Kaushish in1803 and translated by Chhajju Ram Bhatt of Bhadson in 1870 a,d, and he got it from Mohlu Ram Bhatt through the good offices of Man Singh Bhatt of Jind--evidently an unbelievable story that can not be verified as neither the original transcript in Bhattakhshri nor its Panjabi translation has been provided for verification. The dates of various events differ from the accepted ones by five years and the names of the ancestors of the Gurus vary from those given in the Granth Sahib. Besides the Hukamnama supposed to have been given by Guru Gobind Singh and the letter written by Bhai Mani Singh to Sundriji, which seem to have been included to improve the credibility of the work, have been conidered fictitious by the scholars. His formulations did not find favor with scholars like Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, Prof.H.S.Shan, Major Gurmukh Singh Warraich of the Encyclopedia of Sikhism , G.S.Nayer, Professor of history and the editor of Panjab History Conference Proceedings, Kirpal Singh Dardi and Professor Parkash Singh Jammu etc.with the result that a separate entry was included in the Encyclopedia of Sikhism on Bhai Mani Ram Rajpute.

       Bhai Mani Ram Pawar Rajpute was born in Alipur in 1644and he was the third of the twelve sons of Naik Mai Dass. His grandfather

Balu Rao died fighting for the sixth Guru at Amritsar in 1634. Mani Ram joined the service of the 7th Guru and continued upto the tenth. He got married twice,had several sons five of whom Bachitter Singh, Uday Singh,Anak Singh,Ajab Singh and Ajaib Singh got baptism from the tenth Guru when he created Khalsa in 1699 and died fighting for him when he had to leave Anandpur in 1795,but Bhai Mani Ram himself did not take it. He spent the later days of his life with his two sons and several grandsons at Ladwa, where his sons were the Jagirdars of Raja Ajit Singh. Sewa Singh son of Kesar Singh was the Bhatt of Bhai Mani Ram's grandson at Ladwa and he mixed two personalities to please his patron. Bhai Mani Ram died in1734.

       Thus it should be clear that Bhai Mani Singh,the nephew of Bhai Diala, was a Kamboj born in 1665 in Kambowal. He was a Massaddi,

writer who never got married and was martyred in1737. .Bhai Mani Ram a Rajpute of Pawar clan from Alipur was born in 1644,who had two marriages and several sons and died at Ladwa in 1734. According to Shaheed Bilaas a book edited and published by Giani Garja Singh ji in 1961, the birth date of Bhai Mani Ram (alias Bhai Mani Singh Rajput) of Alipore, Multan was 1644. Bhai Mani Singh Ji was not the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Bhai Sahib were given the duty of Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib by Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Sri Damdama Sahib in 1706. The Jathedari of Sri Akal Takht Sahib was given to Akali Baba Binod Singh Ji, the 1st Jathedar of Shiromani Panth Akali Buddha Dal. Sikh Itihas (talk) 12:55, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
