34 miles in less then an hour?!

[edit]

does anyone else think its a bit strange that homer can travel 34miles in less then an hour, without being stoped by ether the police or heavy traffic.. as bart had to explain to homer about it 4 times that has to take up a good 30mins.. 86.2.114.118 14:29, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At 60-70 you can do it in about 30min —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joe The Dragon (talkcontribs) 02:00, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

[edit]
This review is transcluded from Talk:Black Widower/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Overall, this is quite a good article. I have a few concerns, but none are too major:

  • "marries his Aunt Selma" - the way the sentence is written, "his" seems to refer to Sideshow Bob, not Bart.
  • "does not believe that he married her out of love, but rather, he believes that he is planning..." - that's a lot of "he"s. Perhaps simplifying it would help, such as "Bart believes that Bob is planning something sinister rather than marrying for love."?
  • "by asking Selma to marry him, who eagerly accepts" - this is a little awkward. Perhaps "by proposing to Selma, who eagerly accepts"?
  • "it nearly revokes the marriage" - "revokes" seems like a strange choice of words.
    • Got a suggestion for a better word? :)
      • I'm not sure. Perhaps "...cannot hide his hatred, the marriage is nearly called off"?
  • Since it is so important to the plot, it should probably be clarified that it is a gas fireplace the first time it is mentioned.
  • "we see their hotel room explode behind him" - I don't like how this suddenly shifts to "we". How about "the hotel room explodes behind him"?
  • "We discover that Selma is unscathed,..." - same thing here. How about just removing "We discover that"?
  • "for framing an armed robbery" - this sounds awkward. Perhaps "for framing Krusty the Clown for armed robbery"?
  • "Patty and Selma's obsession with the character MacGyver from the television show MacGyver" - to break up the repetition, I feel like including MacGyver's first name would help: "Patty and Selma's obsession with the character Angus MacGyver from the television show MacGyver". Because his first name is never mentioned on The Simpsons, however, this is definitely not necessary if you don't like it.
  • I think "Batmobile" should be capitalized, but I'm not 100% certain.
  • The lead section doesn't seem to provide an overview of the full article. Because the reader is supposed to have a brief but reasonably complete understanding of the key points after reading the lead, I believe that more of the plot should be discussed. Only the key points should be included, however. Perhaps "Bart realizes that Bob is planning to kill Selma; he prevents the attempted murder, and Bob is sent back to prison."?
  • It has been a while since I watched the episode. Is anything said about why Bob initiated the romance, only to try to kill Selma?
    • I don't think so. If you want to you can watch the episode here yourself.
      • I've got the DVD, so I just watched it. It is implied, though not stated directly, that Bob is repulsed by Selma (his reaction when Selma invites him to have sex on the honeymoon video, and his frantic scrubbing in the bathroom after sex) and that he was after her money (she bought stock in a mace company just before society crumbled...since Bart is shown processing this fact, like the other clues, it can be assumed that this was his reason). However, I don't know if this information can be added, as there is no explicit source other than the episode itself. I guess it could be added without drawing the connection (eg. "While planning the wedding, Selma reveals that she is unconcerned about money, as she made a good profit in the stock market; Bob states that he hopes that nobody thinks that he is marrying her for the money.") Overall, the article is quite well-written. There are no problems with images, stability, or neutrality. Much of the information uses a primary source, but I'm not concerned about this because it is probably the best (only?) way to find out information about the writers' thought processes when writing the episode. I will place this nomination on hold for a week to allow for these concerns to be addressed or discussed. I have this page on my watchlist, so any responses can be left here.
