I sincerely doubt the validity of the "Hurricane Wilma struck Bonita Springs" statement... The hurricane went through Southern Collier County, and although Bonita and North naples recieved heavy winds and rain, the town was not "struck" by Wilma. - Bladeswin | Talk to me | 20:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I have to disagree with you. Hurricane Wilma made landfall at Cape Romano, FL (25.8533N 81.6750W). The straight-line distance from this point and the center of Bonita Springs is 34 miles (approx. 30 n mi). The NHC defines a hurricane strike as the following "A hurricane strike occurs if that location passes within the hurricane's strike circle, a circle of 125 n mi diameter, centered 12.5 n mi to the right of the hurricane center (looking in the direction of motion). This circle is meant to depict the typical extent of hurricane force winds, which are approximately 75 n mi to the right of the center and 50 n mi to the left." (NHC).
Even though we were spared the worst, my home personally received over $30,000 in damage as did countless others from our location (Little Hickory Island) eastward to the center of the city and beyond. Power was out for days and up to over a few weeks for some isolated locations within the city limits. Also, many mobile structures were destroyed.
I also wanted to point out that you had stated that the "town" did not receive damage but I wanted to point out to you that Bonita Springs is a city and was incorporated December 31, 1999. - jim09091 | 19:40, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lifting from Lee County page

[edit]

Much of this page is from the Lee County page. Considering Bonita Springs is a city within the county, and much of the information lifted from the county page and duplicated on this city page has nothing specifically to do with Bonita Springs itself (but rather, the larger metropolitan area and Lee County -- in particular, sports, transportation, etc), I would suggest reverting these duplicitous edits back to a template similar to that used on the Fort Myers and Cape Coral pages. Leave the larger information for the larger-encompassing page, and save this Bonita Springs page for facts and points of interest unique to Bonita Springs. I am prepared to make these edits, but am hesitant to do so without some further agreeance. Trevormartin227 17:36, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. At the time I began working with this page, it was a generic city page. Due to the incorporation and growth of the city over a short period of time I began to work with the page. I know some of this was lifted from the Lee County page (as I had commented I believe either in the comments or code itself) but I was the only one working with this page at the time. I do believe the page should have unique content but I also don't want the pages of the county to all follow the same cookie-cutter format. I have begun consolidating this page some and will continue to do so. I do believe some facts should remain though (such as the roads within the city limits and the air transportation options) as many who view this page (or access it from a search engine) may just look over the page itself without visiting the Lee County page. - jim09091 | 20:14, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good points, but perhaps you would consider, instead of having all the information listed twice (once on the Lee County page, and again on the Bonita Springs page), having a link to the Lee County page's section on each topic. Bonita Springs, while yes continually growing, is not, IMO, one of the major cities of the region -- these would be Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Naples. Following that logic (and the logic of Wikipedia) therefore, the Bonita Springs page should not have information related only to the larger area.
PS: great work on the sports logos. Trevormartin227 20:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Established Date

[edit]

What exactly does the "Established" date mean? I know that's not the date it was founded, because I was born there in 1991. I'm thinking it's the date it became a city, though I seem to recall that happening (The public party, anyways) in January 2001. Dusk Raven (talk) 21:13, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Established date refers to the offical and legal incorporation date of the city. You can refer to the following articles in [on] regards to incorporation:

For some history see: http://www.explorationsinc.com/historical/index.html . Bonita actually incorporated in the 1920's but then unincorporated (and going back under the control of Lee County) due to financial issues.
Finally, a great historical summary news article can be found at: http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2008/jan/10/history-bonita-springs/?destination_naples=1 - jim09091 01:14, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Movie

[edit]

Can we add that there was a movie made in Bonita? One with Sean Connery in it? Firio (talk) 18:36, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Media section

[edit]

I copyedited large portions of the media section per WP:MOS. I removed a number of inline external links to businesses that already had Wikipedia articles and added reference tags to Nielsen Company and Arbitron links. But the information is still nothing more than listings sourced to commercial websites and provides no real value to readers or this encyclopedic article. Education

[edit]

Minor edit re "HI CHRISTIAN" - unknown if this is a designation as a sub heading, or if this is a shout out to a vandal.

Since there was no reference to any other forms of schools in the Bonita Springs area the Sub-Heading was removed. Richard416282 (talk) 07:46, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
