David Haye 29012008

[edit]

He is not on The Ring Magazine P4P list, Bernard Hopkins should be here. Someone is vandalising Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.146.32.62 (talk) 14:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed it, this can be confirmed on The Ring Magazine website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.146.32.62 (talk) 14:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A female listing?

[edit]

I saw on a recent telecast that Ring Magazine evidentally has a female pound for pound listing. Although I never read it in the magazine or seen it in the website. Maya Levy 02:32, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manny Pacquiao as of 12/06

[edit]

Manny Pacquiao after his win on November 18, 2006 against Erik Morales jumped to #2. Whomever is editing him to #1 is clearly vandalizing the page. Maya Levy 04:50, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

floyd mayweather is still #1 p4p in the ring ratings and Manny pacquiao just moved from #3 to #2. Pacquiao has never been #1 and this needs to be fixed asap!!!! (user: william u. 11:14pm, December 26,2006

why is manny pacquiao #1. by putting him their you are giving improper information and hurting the integrity of wikipedia as a whole. all you have to do is go to the ring online and look at the rankings. floyd mayweather has been #1 since june 2005 and still remains their. i know the individuals of wikipedia have a little more common sense then what their showing. (i'm sorry maybe you are ignorant and i shouldn't be so harsh on you.) get it right!!!

I think Ocsar De La Hoya has to be in there somewhere I am a boxer myself and I think he is classy, and great to watch.

Please keep in mind that this is not a Wikipedia Pound for Pound page. Maya Levy talk 13:34, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Historical Number 1 list

[edit]

It would be interesting to see a historical #1 list - all the fighters that used to be considered the best pound-for-pound. GregorB (talk) 00:23, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes

[edit]

Please wait until The Ring update their rankings before changing the order. [1] still lists Hopkins at #4 and Calzaghe at #5. Neıl 12:22, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calzaghe is now No.1!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.37.151.88 (talk) 17:08, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calzaghe's flag

[edit]

Okay, Claudevsq in particular, explain to me why Calzaghe has a British, as opposed to Welsh flag. Your assertion that "Wales is not a country, but a part of one" would seem to be contradicted at least by Wikipedia nomenclature: "Wales is a country" (first four words of the Wales article), "The United Kingdom is a unitary state consisting of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales." (2nd paragraph of United Kingdom article). In addition, Wiipedia list Calzaghe's nationality as "Welsh", Calzaghe's nicname is "the Pride of Wales," his fighting trunks bear part of the Welsh flag, at the last couple of fights which i've seen where national anthems were performed, it was the Welsh anthem which was sung as opposed to "God Save the Queen" and whenever i've seen Calzaghe enter the ring with a flag, as he did in the fight with Kessler, it was a Welsh flag. I think Calzaghe has made it abundantly clear by his own actions which he prefers. 84.30.91.81 (talk) 17:06, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be using the Welsh flag for Calzaghe and the English flag for Hatton since The Ring per se lists their countries as Wales and England, respectively, not United Kingdom. We'd have to follow what they say to avoid issues such as this. If the Ring used "United Kingdom" or "Great Britain" we'd use the Union Flag. –Howard the Duck 07:34, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"The Ring" weight class

Not notable subsection of magazine containing non-encylopedic content

[edit]

I have again made this a redirect - the article fails our notability guideline for stand alone articles (no third party sources discussing this section of magazine). Even if thrid party sources DID exist, the article would have to consist of something other than the current champions because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not general collection of bits of data. -- The Red Pen of Doom 19:58, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A passing reference that Ring magazine coined the term "pound for pound" is not significant third party coverage about the subject of this article. -- The Red Pen of Doom 16:15, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OR

[edit]

I've been following this flag-war. Anyone who changes these without changing and/or providing sources will receive escalating WP:OR-warnings. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 06:55, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Donaire's nationality should be Filipino. It should be a PHI flag. Donaire is a resident of CA, USA, he only holds a premanent residency (green card holder). In WBC and WBO websites, Donaire's nationality is Filipino (PHI). In The Ring website, it only shows the boxer's residency like Floyd Mayweather who was born in Michigan but now a resident of Las Vegas or Manny Pacquiao who was born in Bukidnon, Philippines but now a resident of Gen. Santos City. Furthermore, Giovani Segura is a Mexican. Here, a Mexican flag put beside his name. But in The Ring website, his country is USA because he is a resident of CA, USA. So please, don't be biased. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doughn (talkcontribs) 13:42, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You need to bring sources for this story/version. It says USA, that's all I can go by. If you do not provide a source within the next days, I will revert again. Also, do not use your IP to avoid scrutiny; that is called sockpuppetry and can lead to a block. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 16:14, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help on this matter, Seb az86556.

Nonito Donaire

[edit]

It is clearly stated in the given references that the Nationality of Donaire is Filipino. This page follow the format of BoxRec.com where it shows the boxer's nationality by their place of birth. In fact Donaire is of Filipino descent. Donaire and his family only acquired US citizenship because they moved to US and became resident of CA, USA. Lots of boxers like Jean Pascal, Antonio Margarito, Giovanni Segura and Vic Darchinyan use the flag of their place of birth instead of their residence. Doughn (talkcontribs) 08:40, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Ring has updated its pound for pound list. Donaire's country was changed to Philippines. The flag of Donaire in this page should be changed to Philippine flag not just for the fact that he was born in Bohol, Philppines but also because he has a Filipino blood. He only acquired permanent residency in the United States. Doughn (talkcontribs) 10:30, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Go with the Phillippines flag. GoodDay (talk) 04:53, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pacquiao is still #1 in The Ring magazine Pound for Pound

[edit]

I checked and re-checked the source after seeing that Mayweather is ranked #1 in this list. Pacquiao is still #1, even if just barely after his last fight with Marquez. Here is an article in the same website regarding the issue. --R A D Talk 11:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Champion Emeritus status

[edit]

I'm wondering why the list shows some of these fighters as WBC Emeritus champion? Andre Ward was champion emeritus whilst injured, but he decided to relinquish that title. The others are active fighters. BoxingGuru78 (talk) 03:10, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pound for pound rankings

[edit]

They are all over the place. You have boxers at the wrong weight and with incorrect boxing records. Canelo isn’t 14-1, that’s Loma for a start. There are s/bantamweights showing as m/weights. David100984 (talk) 03:38, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the names have changed but the rest of the records have stayed the same. David100984 (talk) 03:41, 22 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Ring table messed up

[edit]

Looks like the names were shuffled, but the stats and weights remained. Inoya became a middleweight, and Loma has 35 fights. Don't tell Loma. 109.252.87.48 (talk) 04:44, 5 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
