I am living in the Bernese aerea, I have never heard about this story. Do you have any source? I can't find any such family history in the relevant encyclopaedias and archives either. That is strange!--Blauer Heinrich (talk) 16:39, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
- So funny, but my grandfather Jake Brawand told me that our name was changed in its spelling from a ‘V’ to a ‘w’ and removed the von. The other interesting thing is that my great grandfather married a sister from Bern and she was struck by lightning, dying. He went back to Switzerland and married her sister (my grandfather’s mother). She too was struck and killed by lightning. There were 9 siblings total. Very few had children. My father was an only son (he had six girls).
- My family appears to have hid among the Italian - catholic - community as farmers during the world war and the persecution of Jews.
- My grandfather spoke Yiddish to me from time to time. He also had lightening poles on all of our farm buildings and gave us all lessons on lighting strikes.
- He was so wonderful and loving raising 19 children other than his own. John Walter Brawand and his wife Martha Rosella Parker Brawand loved their family and community.
