The film

[edit]

Does this album contain music from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (film), or just from the TV series? The only mention of the film currently is A small part of the original score is also included. Is this true? In which track? If it is true, shouldn't this article link to the film, not just the TV series? Andrewa (talk) 21:51, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It only includes music from the television series. The reference to "original score" means the TV show's original score, as opposed to its soundtrack. --Nalvage (talk) 22:14, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK... but what's the difference? Is the theme music, for example, regarded as part of the original score but not of the soundtrack? This is new terminology to me. Google suggests that original score and soundtrack are synonyms. It quotes the English Wikipedia article on soundtrack as its web definition of original score. Andrewa (talk) 00:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand it, the terms are often interchangeable, but "score" typically refers only to music written specifically for the film or TV show in question, whereas "soundtrack" typically either refers to *all* the music used, or specifically any pre-existing songs. Either way, the phrase "original score" in this article refers to music written for the television show. --Nalvage (talk) 01:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so looking at the track listing, that probably means the theme music, track one, and maybe track 18. Probably good to rephrase to make it a bit more obvious what is meant; In that the series was originally (and loosely) based on the film, I took the phrase original score to refer to the film. I've added some clarification to the comment, but I'm not convinced it's needed. Go to Amazon and search for: original score. It'll bring you many results, all of which are using "original" to mean music written for the film in question, rather than originating with some earlier project. --Nalvage (talk) 11:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but that's exactly the sense I assumed. Take for example My Fair Lady or The Sound of Music, both of them stage shows first and later films. In the context of the films, if a distinction were to be made between the soundtrack and the original score, I'd assume that the original score was the stage musical unless otherwise stated. If the two terms were used interchangeably then I'd assume that they both referred to the film soundtrack material of course, but that's not what was happening here.
I think the clarification works well. Andrewa (talk) 21:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Table?

[edit]

Is it worth tabulating this (and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Radio Sunnydale – Music from the TV Series) with the pertinent source episodes? Kinitawowi (talk) 23:44, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The page for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Score does it; I'm doing it. Kinitawowi (talk) 15:20, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
