Intro

[edit]

I think the introduction sentence is ambiguous. In my opinion this page should only talk on how the documents/data created by a CAD system should look like or contain, but not on how to exchange the data and in which format. For this we have the pages CAD data exchange and Category:CAD_file_formats. So I propose to change the introduction in this direction. Lothartklein 21:46, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

who's Standards???

[edit]

This article needs to be clear about who's standards are being referenced. There are documents that appears to be US Military standards which are not labeled as such and it's confusing as to if these are American standards, US Military worldwide or what. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.244.183.6 (talk) 12:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AEC Cad Standards info

[edit]

I removed the following info from the article. This info is to detailled. Only a summary of this info is acceptable. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 18:44, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • United States of America, Department of Defense,The CADD/GIS Technology Center for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment:

The following is an abbreviated discussion of AEC Cad Standards4 layer naming conventions.

AEC Cad Standards are National Cad Standard (NCS) compliant (version 3.1) indicated by a seal on the cover of this government publication4. If you do any federal/state government work you will need to comply with the AEC layer naming standards. Any layer naming standards that are NCS compliant follow a format3 that contains a Discipline Alpha – Major Group5 – Optional Minor Group1,5 – Optional Secondary Minor Group – and an optional status Alpha2 (e.g.: A-WALL-FULL-TEXT-N). All layer names must contain a discipline field and a major field (mandatory fields). Major Group5 may not be user definable. The first Minor6 group is optional but may be user definable to the extent it follows the ANNN format (Alphabet and 3 digit Arabic numerals) and defines View major groups of DETL, ELEV, SECT. The second Minor Group is user definable and “field codes may be four alphabetic and/or numeric characters (0–9) and/or “~”.”3

Footnotes:

1-The 1st Minor Group

when modified, may be used ONLY to modify the prescribed drawing View Major Groups (DETL, ELEV, SECT ); the user modified 1st Minor Group may not be used with any other Major Group. The format of ANNN is also prescribed. It must consist of a single alphabetic character followed by a three-digit number between 001 and 999. The definition of ANNN is not prescribed; it must be defined by the user. The definition must be documented on the U.S. NCS Compliance Disclosure Statement for the project on which it is used.

2- Optional One Digit Status Fields
