Inaccurate Information on Caiman size

[edit]

The opening paragraph says that caiman are small, with all species only reaching a couple meters in length. However, the article on the Black Caiman (which this article links to) says that the Black Caiman reaches 5-6 meters. The opening paragraph to this article should be adjusted, because the Black Caiman size figures are correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.198.97.148 (talk) 02:23, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Black caiman is not a member of the genus Caiman, but rather has the scientific name Melanosuchus niger. This page is about the genus Caiman. There is a separate page for all caimans. Cougroyalty (talk) 15:48, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merger

[edit]

"Caiman" should be redirected here instead of the subfamily caimaninae because it's a genus, not a subfamily. And remove the stupid part "(genus)" from this title, and insert an s in the end of caiman, because it's not one and species, its more than one caimanS. And don't merge this article to caimaninae, becauce that subfamily even have the genuses Melanosuchos and Paleosuchus.--Buggwiki (talk) 19:33, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the redirect is treating caiman as a common name for members of the Caimaninae rather than just abusing a generic name. Abyssal (talk) 17:41, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

General information on caimans

[edit]

General information pertaining to all caimans really belongs in the "Caiman" article, not this one. There are three living genera of caimans, and this article only covers one of them. WolfmanSF (talk) 21:39, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
