Assessment notes

[edit]

importance arises from the fact that this species resides primarily in california, and a limited range within california, at that. also there are not many quasi endemic amphibians in the state. Anlace 02:29, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Habitat

[edit]

I'm not including this in the habitat section, as it is original and undocumented research, but over the past five years I've had numerous California slender salamanders living in leaf litter and even damp newsprint on my small patio in the middle of the Mission District. The wording of the Habitat section seems to suggest that their urban occurrence is novel. My assumption upon finding them miles from any significantly damp park (closest 'natural' park was in Bernal Heights, on a mostly treeless and dry-ish knob), is that they can't be uncommon in San Francisco.

If anyone can back this assumption up with references, please correct/expand this section of the article. Erielhonan 22:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can verify that the salamander is common in San Francisco. We had them in our backyard on the slopes of Diamond Heights, most often found under rocks during the spring. -- J. Wong (talk) 05:38, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
