Merge

[edit]

Per WP:CMC, Ultimate character articles should be merged into those of their Marvel Universe counterparts. --Chris Griswold 22:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article Condense

[edit]

These wiki comic articles are meant to be short, concise descriptions of the character. The Mar-Vell page has had a tendancy to be overly long, including unnecessary "play-by-play" descriptions of storylines. This verbose style is to be avoided. As a result, it will not be uncommon for large sections of text to be deleted for purposes of article integrity.

Fair use rationale for Image:Deathcaptainmarvel.jpg

[edit]

Image:Deathcaptainmarvel.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Missing Image

[edit]

Just thought I'd let you all know: Mar-Vell's infobox is missing an image. If I had more time and was more familiar with the character, I would find a suitable image. Would someone else please take care of it? -Rycr (talk) 08:31, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've flagged this in the header too. (Emperor (talk) 13:34, 19 August 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Secret Invasion

[edit]

Captain Marvel was restored into the Marvel universe during a fill-in issue related to the Civil War story (with the time travel trick), and then revealed as a skrull during the Secret Invasion. It's all mentioned, right. But, in the real world, which was the idea about this return? Did Marvel intended the character to be the real thing, and then change their minds? Or was it meant to be a skrull from the begining? Cambalachero (talk) 22:17, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe he was intended to be a skrull from the beginning. Argento Surfer (talk) 17:19, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name clarification

[edit]

As someone with little knowledge of comics, it's not clear what "Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell)" in the lede means. Is Mar-Vell his birth name, or an alternate spelling? I recommend it be clarified, but can't do so myself, lacking the knowledge. 49.185.240.79 (talk) 04:06, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In the story, he's an alien soldier named Mar-Vell with a rank of Captain. His name was misunderstood when he arrived on Earth, and it stuck. In the real world, the writer was told by his publisher to create a "Captain Marvel" so they could trademark the name. Other characters before and since have also used the name, which is why the Mar-Vell DAB is being used. I'm not sure how to express this in an opening sentence, but it's explained clearly (I think) in the first paragraph of the Fictional Character Biography.  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 12:05, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Title clarity and new introduction

[edit]

Specifically in relation to Shazam Captain Marvel (DC Comics) and Captain Marvel Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics), this title should be Mar-Vell (Captain Marvel) for clarity. Additionally, the inclusion of an introduction along the lines of “This article refers to the first Golden Age Comic book hero to use the name Captain Marvel. For current Marvel publication, see Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics). For the DC Superhero, see Captain Marvel (DC Comics).” would greatly help orient the reader against the other characters of the same name. The Zatara article does this fairly well, and for this article to have no introduction right at the top feels unpolished and confusing for the reader, specifically if they’ve come from the DC Comics page.
