I've added some information about the stability of carboxylate ions, but I've only studied A-level Chemistry, so my interpretation of what makes carboxylate anions stable may be too naïve. If an expert stumbles upon this page, it would be good if he or she could give my explanation a once-over. I realise there's also an explanation on the carboxylic acid page, but I went into more detail about why it's more stable than an alkoxide ion on this page. Thanks. Er, shouldn't the link to 'salt' (in the first line) be to /Salt_%28chemistry%29 rather than the article on NaCl? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LiveYankee (talkcontribs) 00:44, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely;  Fixed --Bblackburn (talk) 00:01, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why does "polycarboxylate" redirect here?

Nomenclature

[edit]

Would it be possible to add the nomenclature? In particular "carboxylate" versus "carboxy", if there is any difference between these two terms. 2A02:8388:1604:F600:A023:1A46:73DC:AD2 (talk) 18:25, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Say My Name

[edit]

The 2nd sentence in the article is

It is an ion with negative charge.

I want to specify a carboxylate by its more common one-word identifer

 anion

in addition to the descriptive phrase

an ion with negative charge

The resulting sentence would be

It is an anion, an ion with negative charge.

Barring objections and my laziness, I will make the change.

Seeing no objections and overcoming my laziness I made this change in Edit 1241025863.
