2011/2012 contestants and winners table
[edit]Hope you don't mind folks, but I updated the table in full, so that it shows all the specialist subject for the entire series. The BBC's official Mastermind website have published a list of all subjects/celebrities. Wesley Mouse (talk) 19:15, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Hey Wesley, I reverted your edits as while those are the topics for the respective episodes next weeK, they are not in the respective order. It says " The guests are......" and "Topics will include....". It doesn't say each person's topic next to their name or say "respectively" at the end, so we don't know if each list of topics are concurrent with those of the guests. What sort of tipped me off as well, was that on the episode on 5 January, you have Andrew Collins as answering questions on The Toronto Blue Jays. I find that weird that he would answer question on that topic as he's British, but Stewart Francis, a Canadian comedian from Ontario would know a lot about that baseball team. (The last time he was on, his topic was the hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs) Also, the below article from Radio Times confirms that Andrew Collins topic was "cinematic" in nature. So I would guess that his topic is "Disaster Movies of the 1970's" http://www.radiotimes.com/blog/2011-11-18/andrew-collins-no-spoilers!
This is why I chose to delete the topic sections for next week's episode. You did a fine job, but the list of topics isn't necessarily in the same order and we don't know which of the 4 topics each celebrity will be answering questions on each day. I believe that we should wait for next week and fill in te topic sections after each episode. hope I explained myself properly. cheers!70.83.85.91 (talk) 21:54, 30 December 2011 (UTC)samusek2
- While I understand what your personal reasons for not including the details, you'll find I was within scope as per Wikipedia:Verifiability, and the BBC's page does appear to have listed the first 4 episodes in the correct order of celebrity and their respective specialist subject - and the BBC's website is covered under policy as per reliability. Seeing as the previous episodes have been listed in the correct order, then it is safe to assume that the BBC have kept consistent and the details for subsequent episodes are correct as printed. The article is also slightly incorrect, the final episode is listed as to be screened on January 7, 2012. However, the BBC have it listed as being shown on January 8, 2012 - there is no episode for January 7. There's also another episode (January 2, 2012) that is being screened a day earlier to viewers in BBC Scotland (January 1, 2012). That hasn't been noted in the article, which should be as per Wikipedia:Notability. Wesley Mouse (talk) 22:51, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- P.S. The Radio Times link you provided doesn't show anything whatsoever, only a blog page - and newsblogs are to be treated with caution when it comes to reliability; as per WP:NEWSBLOG. I get the Radio Times at home, and believe me the Christmas 2-week bumper edition had several programs listed, that where not even broadcast. December 29, the magazine didn't show Deal or No Deal as being screened for that day, yet it was broadcast. Even Channel 4 themselves mentioned something about some TV Listings forgetting to list the show. Wesley Mouse (talk) 23:01, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I took the courtesy to email the BBC, explaining to them about this article, and to double check the topics for the January 5th episode. Corrected that list on the article accordingly, as it appears that the details on the official website for that episode only have been input in the wrong order. The other episodes are corrected listed in the right order. Wesley Mouse (talk) 21:57, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Chosen charities?
[edit]If there's no money involved, why do contestants choose a charity? Lazyzee (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:04, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Episodes section
[edit]This section does not belong on Wikipedia due to unreferenced information that falls under WP:LISTCRUFT and WP:IINFO. Discuss here if you think the section should stay providing the reason does not fall under WP:PPOV or WP:ATAEW.BangJan1999 14:08, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- Going to remove the section due to WP:SILENCE. BangJan1999 19:14, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- I have restored the section. You need to allow more time for discussion than a mere two days. WP:LISTCRUFT is only an essay, and WP:IINFO does not apply as the list is not indiscriminate, as it sets out the subjects that each contestant answered questions on. Our focus as editors should be on providing the information that our readers would expect to find, and this list provides that. Edwardx (talk) 20:54, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Please explain what is notable about taking part on Mastermind? Their specialist subjects? The results? Why is there no equivalent for the non celebrity series? Dougal18 (talk) 08:26, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- There's no list for the non-celebrity series as they are not notable people. Edwardx (talk) 10:06, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- You avoided answering the first three questions. Your answer to the fourth is illogical and discriminates between famous and non famous people. Dougal18 (talk) 16:13, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- Discriminating between famous and non-famous people is a key principle of what we do here on Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Notability. What notable people do is notable, and for the non-notable, WP:BLP1E applies. In the non-celebrity series, for most contestants, this will be their 15 minutes of fame. Edwardx (talk) 09:06, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
- If a member of the public wins a game of Mastermind - no mention on wikipedia, if someone famous finishes fourth then it is included? That's just nonsense. Dougal18 (talk) 16:45, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
- The winners of the regular series are listed in a table in that article. Philafrenzy (talk) 08:27, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
- No response from Edwardx after 3 days despite being active during that time. Going to remove the list unless someone else objects. BangJan1999 22:50, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
- Did not realise that I was expected to respond to an argument that has no basis in any Wikipedia policy. Edwardx (talk) 23:07, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

- The participants and their subjects is the proper content of the article. What else could be in the article? It's not like Oxford University Press are going to publish a book about the cultural impact of the show is it? I am concerned it's almost wholly unreferenced and the list might overwhelm the rest of the article. What about making the table a stand alone list? Philafrenzy (talk) 10:30, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- The external link to the official BBC page details the contestants in each episode, all of which can be viewed online if one wished to confirm their specialist subjects and finishing order. Thus the content of the list is all verifiable, and could not reasonably be considered to be "contentious material" - this list does comply with Wikipedia:Verifiability. Having a chat
[edit]When Mastermind was first revived with John Humphreys as host, John Humphreys would have a chat about the contestants' specialist subject at the beginning of the General Knowledge round. It could be mentioned in this article that John Humphreys has a chat with the contestants in Celebrity Mastermind at the beginning of the General Knowledge round, although this is normally about the contestant's career. Vorbee (talk) 07:45, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
Winners listed in bold
[edit]There does not appear to be a note "Winners listed in bold" after the Series 1 2003 - 2004 sub-heading. Vorbee (talk) 07:16, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Impressive
[edit]This list is very impressive. It shows what an up-to-date encyclopedia is - it has the names of contestants on the programme and their specialist subjects before the programmes have even been broadcast. Vorbee (talk) 20:53, 29 December 2018 (UTC) The article can now be up-dated, because some of the games have now been played and the winners can go in. Paul Higgins, Jenny Colgan and Candice Brown were all winners in the matches they played (Candice Brown won by virtue of having fewer passes). Vorbee (talk) 09:00, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Table
[edit]It seems that the table for the most recent series is out of order - the series on 18 January came after the editions of the programme broadcast on the 4 of January and so on. Vorbee (talk) 20:46, 20 January 2019 (UTC) The table has the contestants for the broadcast of the programme on January 18 2019 listed, but this is followed by editions on 2, 3, 4 and 11 of January. Vorbee (talk) 18:51, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
This article needs updating
[edit]This article needs updating - there was a version of Celebrity Mastermind on February 15 2019. Vorbee (talk) 09:17, 16 February 2019 (UTC) Or was this a repeat? Some of the editions of "Celebrity Mastermind" I have seen this year (2019) have been repeats. Vorbee (talk) 16:46, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Innacuracy in article
[edit]This article contains an innaccuracy. It has the date of the contest between Dylan Llewellyn, Claire McCollum, Caspar Lee and Rickie Haywood-Williams as the 2 January 2020, but in fact it was on the 31 December 2019. Vorbee (talk) 21:52, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
Up-to-date
[edit]This article shows what an up-to-date encyclopedia Wikipedia is. Shortly after Katy Wix won the edition of Mastermind broadcast on May 8 2021, it has her down as the winner, within twenty minutes after the programme finished. Rollo August (talk) 18:17, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
