Text removed from Mortensen article
[edit]I removed the following text with ostensibly updated numbers from the Greg Mortensen article:
As of October 2009, Central Asia Institute has established over 141 schools in rural Afghanistan and Pakistan, which provide education to 62,000 students including over 48,000 girls. <ref>{{cite web|last=Boss |first=Suzie|url=http://www.edutopia.org/webinar-april |title='The Power of One: Greg Mortenson's Mission to Promote Peace through Project Learning |publisher=edutopia.org |date=2010-04-15 |accessdate=2010-04-15}}</ref>
I would have updated the numbers here, but that article doesn't actually give those numbers. — Sebastian 15:55, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit]I have added the {{advert}} tag to this article because of the way the article applauds the organization and its founders. To become WP:NPOV, the article would need to address the question of the organization's impact, its critics, its relationship to other organizations, and more overall context. These links may be of some help in this process: [1], [2]. Please be bold and update the article to achieve a more neutral point of view. Thanks, Vectro (talk) 03:21, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
CBS "60 Minutes" investigative report and corrections
[edit]CBS News released a devastating report regarding Mortenson's accountability and credibility on 4/17/11. I posted a note to that effect which was improved by another Wikipedia contributor. I went back to correct my URL and added the access date. I thank the poster who edited my text.Activist (talk) 01:42, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- You're more than welcome. I've been watching this article along with Three Cups of Tea and Greg Mortenson articles since the news came out. I figured that there would be a lot of editing done after the story was aired. Some good, some not so good; some POV some NPOV. :-) Lhb1239 (talk) 01:44, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- This cited text was removed immediately after I added it. The edit summary sounded to me like "I didn't like it". Could the editor please explain why it isn't appropriate for the article? I added immediately after watching 60 Minutes so it is verifiable. Cla68 (talk) 22:25, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- It's probably more applicable to the Greg Mortenson article, since it involves his personal activity. He himself has said that he, the CAI and the book are closely connected, so deciding what to put into the individual articles requires some judgment. Duplication is unavoidable, but should be minimized Will Beback talk 22:33, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

- That's essentially why I removed it. That and because, as I stated in the edit summary, it sounded tabloid-esque and there wasn't a reference placed specifically on the new info indicating it was a referenced addition to the article. Also, because the edit summary didn't say anything other than "detail". Because that meant nothing pertainable that I could see, I felt what was added was suspect. Lhb1239 (talk) 22:45, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- FWIW, he more or less confirmed the story in the Outside magazine interview, adding the dramatic detail that he mistook the CBS correspondent for a suicide bomber. Still, it's better handled in the bio than here. Will Beback talk 22:52, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Stuff
[edit]- http://www.gregmortenson.com/wp-content/gallery/high-resolution-photos/chunda-2006.jpg is of the Chunda Porters Memorial Community School (for girls)

- Is there a GFDL-type release for the pic? Will Beback talk 05:26, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. I mainly wanted to post this so people could find the mention of the school on the Mortenson website and the name of the school on Google. The school could be mentioned in a way in the CAI article
- But it would be nice if it was a free image.
- WhisperToMe (talk) 06:39, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ouch. http://www.gregmortenson.com/ says it is copyrighted. I suppose I can e-mail the CAI and ask for permission to have the image relicensed for Wikipedia WhisperToMe (talk) 06:40, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Merge from Pennies for Peace
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- Clear consensus for merge. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 13:54, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
I've proposed merging Pennies for Peace into this article. Pennies for Peace is a project of the CAI and has no independent notability. Much of the info in that article duplicates the material here, so there's considerable overlap. This article is fairly short so the merged material, minus the duplicated material, would not lengthen this article excessively. Will Beback talk 07:43, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind a merge :) WhisperToMe (talk) 08:00, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- If I recall correctly what I read in Three Cups of Tea, then it was started before CAI. However, the article currently contains not much encyclopedic information that isn't already in the CAI article (or the ones about Mortenson or Three Cups), so it makes sense to merge. — Sebastian 17:32, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that the two should be merged. Lhb1239 (talk) 02:22, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Mortenson article has updated info
[edit]I took info from Mortenson article relevant to CAI. Really there should be more cross-referencing of the two, but as it is they duplicate info that is relevant to both. This includes 2014 Today show interview, and 2015 improvements.
