Piles?

[edit]

Untitled

[edit]

i'm sorry, i gotta ask. malodorous piles? what are we talkin' here? inches, feet, metres? grams, pounds, tons? jeez, ethel, look where you're goin'! damn near ran into that pile of chironomidae! ;-). Toyokuni3 (talk) 23:11, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genera list

[edit]

The list of chironomid genera is incomplete and has little information value as long as so few genera have their own pages. As new genera are described nearly constantly, I propose to have the list removed from the article. A list of subfamilies are more than comprehensive enough for a general encyclopedia.

And, one other thing: Why is this subject rated as low-importance? Chironomids are, after all, the most abundant freshwater insects in the world!--Gunnar Mikalsen Kvifte (talk) 16:25, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with removing the list of genera. Vox Sciurorum (talk) 00:03, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Screaming/squeaking

[edit]

I fould some bloodworms in a tanker of water I was throwing away, (probably not this species) and I could hear them screaming, do they normally scream?--Lerdthenerd wiki defender 11:45, 13 December 2010 (UTC

no!

ecology

[edit]

section is mostly about what eats them....little lame?

False references

[edit]

The references to chironomids being called american and canadian soldiers both refer to the mayfly, an unrelated insect.71.93.220.235 (talk) 23:06, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Chironomids and cholera

[edit]

There seems to be quite an extensive literature showing that chironomids are a reservoir of Vibrio cholerae; and that waterbirds who consume them may then transfer the bacteria (the cause of the disease cholera) to human populations. this article - which cites several others - provides more detail.

I would add something about this to the page, but I'm not sure where it would best fit...

Edit and reorganization of Article

[edit]

Hello,

I added a significant number of details and paragraphs to the article, and separated much of the already present information into different sections to better suit the topics. The formatting of some sentences were changed, and some citations were added. I'm hoping to continue adding detail to this article in the future. Mer0814 (talk) 01:54, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
