Repeat disclaimer
- Second paragraph: "While both of Key's first two previous works, Kanon and Air, had been released first as adult games and then censored for the younger market like most bishōjo games, Key's third work Clannad was released for all-ages and does not contain risqué situations or even any fan service.[3]"
- Gameplay, third paragraph: "While both of Key's first two previous works, Kanon and Air, had been released first as adult games and then censored for the younger market like most bishōjo games, Key's third work Clannad was released for all-ages and does not contain risqué situations or even any fan service.[3]"
This is repetetive, can we clip one of these sentences to spruce up the article? Tyciol (talk) 22:52, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, it's meant to be repetitive. According to WP:LEAD, the lead section should summarize the important aspects of the article, and as such everything in the lead is also repeated again in the article's main body. In short, the lead is a brief overview meant to give a reader unfamiliar with the subject matter an idea of what the article is about, but not going into a lot of detail which is what the main body is for.--十八 02:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Spoiler tags?
While someone wrote in the archived page about how spoilers aren't a reason for censorship, I would like to know if there is at least some kind of warning for this? For somebody who hasn't finished watching After Story, what's written under 'story' is incredibly spoiling. I'm going to divide it with an 'after story plot' tag to begin with, this should at least be a brief warning to readers about what the next paragraph contains. Personally, I think the whole section should be glazed over and summarized vaguely. This is not an important thing to mention about the game. That's for something for people to discuss on fan forums. It shouldn't be necessary to flesh out various epilogues of a graphic novel, especially when it ruins the suspense of it for people who haven't finished it. Tyciol (talk) 23:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- According to WP:SPOILER, it's not okay to remove content because you think it might spoil some people. In short, if you don't want to be spoiled, don't read Wikipedia. There used to be warnings in the form of templates (e.g. {{spoiler}} which has been deleted eight times), but have since been deleted. Not to mention this is a visual novel, and as such the story is an important aspect of the article. Plots shouldn't be written vaguely as this is an encyclopedia, and it's meant to be used to find information, not just vague inferences. And After Story isn't merely an epilogue, it takes up about 14,700 lines of the entire story, which is approximately 23% of the whole game; it's more of a continuation of the main heroine's arc, that's all.--十八 02:04, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I came to this page to get some informations about Clannad since I'm watching the Anime, but I wasn't expecting to read what I read in the "After Story" section. Please don't tell me "don't read Wikipedia", but I really think users should be warned about what they're going to read. I've just watched the fifth episode and now I know how it ends, too bad >_< Could you please do something about this? an anonymous reader, 19:48, 10 June 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.184.188.140 (talk)
- As explained, spoilers are expected to be on Wikipedia. There is nothing that can be done about that.--十八 02:23, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Plot
I think that the sections titled "Story" and "After Story" should come first under the Plot heading. Currently "Story and Themes" and "Principal characters" come up first and can be confusing for people that would like to find information on the story. Also the "Principal characters" section should be cleaned up and made more presentable so that it is easier to understand. Currently it contains a large amount of text within the two paragraphs and can be quite confusing to read. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.195.201.76 (talk) 22:33, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- The way the plot info is currently formatted is taken from featured articles in WP:VG such as Halo: Combat Evolved, Final Fantasy X, StarCraft, etc. I'm all for making the character section less confusing though.--十八 23:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Clannad versus Clann
beneluxboy (talk) 07:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
While this article cites a reference (4), the statement in "Setting and Themes" that clannad means clan or family in Irish is suspect. The article about Clannad, the Irish musical group (in Musical Upbringing) and a FAQ text found elsewhere both say that their name came from abbreviating "an clann as Dobhar"—or "family from Dobhar".
Clann is the word for clan, not clannad. A web search for "Irish word clann" seems to corroborate this conclusion, including the Oxford Companion to Irish History in the entry for clan. (Wiktionary suggests cland for Old Irish in its entry for clan.) In contrast, a search for "Irish word clannad", results in pages about the Irish band or the Japanese works, rather than Irish language and etymology.
- The reference cites the "according to Jun Maeda" part, not that he got it right or wrong. The point is that he thought "Clannad" meant "family" or "clan" in Irish and so named the series Clannad.--十八 08:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure clannad does come from family. I'm not amazing at Irish, so I'd have to ask someone. It's obvious, to me, that searching clannad would result the band and show rather than the meaning like clann because clann isn't something popular, whereas clannad is. Try find out what a face book is by googling it. Kanjo Kotr (talk) 00:58, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you're "pretty sure", you're right — partially ;) All you'd really have to do is Google Translate: "Clann" or "Clannad" from Irish to English. Aside, the name "Clannad" was indeed created by the band first in 1973, which is a blend of the words "An Clann as Dobhar", meaning "the family from Dore". Maeda was therefore wrong in his publicly declared assumption of the meaning.
- Incidentally, if you Google "define facebook" (as it's one word, not two), you'll see that the word is synonymous to what a "yearbook" is, only more recently has come to colloquially refer to the social website. ₪— CelticWonder (T·C)

Character section formatting
Just in case, I'll explain the rationale more clearly here. The reason the character section is formatted as it is in brief prose is due to this being a convention in GA/FA articles in the past, especially if they already have separate character articles. For example, FA video game articles like Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and GA articles like Breath of Fire III, Crash of the Titans, and Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (which is also A class) all share this format for the character section.--十八 21:53, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
MyAnimeList success Which I added
Just in case, before anyone else disagree that its success on MyAnimeList should be added, MyAnimeList, often abbreviated as MAL, is a social networking website. The site provides its users with a list-like system to organize anime and manga. It facilitates finding users who share similar tastes and provides a large database on anime and manga. The website was created and is actively maintained by Garrett Gyssler, who goes by the alias of "Xinil". Currently, there are thirty-eight staff members who update the anime and manga databases, moderate the community, and post news stories.[1] As of July 14, 2009, MyAnimeList claims to have registered over 200,000 users, of whom over 13,000 sign in every day.[1] Beside MyAnimeList, it is also ranked second on anime-plannet with an average score of 4.601 stars out of 5 from 3985 votes as of 00:00 24 December GMT. However, looking at anime-planet which had even yet to have it's own wikipedia article and is not as well-known globally as well as MyAnimeList, I did not add it's anime planet entry. If anyone of you deem it fit to be added, please add it. Dsdsasds (talk) 01:22, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- I do not believe this website is reliable enough to add it in, as there is no mention of the website at WP:ANIME/RS, and if it was as notable as you claim it is, then I'm sure it would already be there. However, I would like for you to voice your comments on WT:ANIME#MyAnimeList RS? where I started a discussion on the matter.--十八 01:29, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Reception
Is there any possibility of mentioning the general disappointment from the fan-base when the Anime was licensed by ADV/Sentai Filmworks and how the newly released English dub is being rated overall as 'sub-par'? --unsigned 14:20, 29 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.61.237.245 (talk)
- Only if there are reliable sources which discuss such things. Perhaps ANN will review the dub soon.--十八 00:03, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
