Louise Brooks finally met her idol during this traumatic period ... Brooks realized how "stunned and helpless" Clara felt in the face of widespread gossip which mocked her voice and accent and considered her failure in talkies a foregone conclusion. Listening to Clara's musical contralto, Brooks could not believe what she was hearing. "She was Hollywood's top box office star! She got 30,000 fan letters a month! But she already knew that she was finished." p.158 "fan mail was monitored carefully by Paramount, which established a Fan Mail Department responsible for tallying, then answering every letter to every star."p. 135

Maile, the bolded link does not lead to an article about fan letters. I think you should pipe it this way:

The Photoplay image baffles me. She was born in 1905, making her only 28 years old in 1933. She looks middle aged in that photo. Strange, isn't it? Maybe she'd been up boozing for several nights. This woman did lead a liberated lifestyle. — Maile (talk) 00:31, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
