Name

[edit]

It was requested that this article be renamed but the procedure outlined at WP:RM#How to request a page move did not appear to be followed, and consensus could not be determined. Please request a move again with proper procedure if there is still a desire for the page to be moved. Thank you for your time! -- tariqabjotu 22:56, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what happened but the name seems fine. The only tweak might be sending it to Crisis (comics) which would be inline with Comics project naming policies. (Emperor 22:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Ennis' titles

[edit]

If anyone is going to do the two Garth Ennis titles then this, while focused on Preacher, has a few quotes about both which could be dropped in (this is also a note for me when those entries are started). (Emperor 22:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Editors

[edit]

The article mentions Igor Goldkind as editor, but he's not in the list of editors. -- Beardo (talk) 05:43, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the relevant issues but if he isn't listed in the credits then it'd be best to snip it out, move it here and ask for sources. (Emperor (talk) 14:39, 5 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

I've done a rewrite adding some source and detail. Some minor comments: -

  1. MacManus' comment on Maxwell producing porn mags... I can't tell if I'm being dumb and MacManus is being either a) intentionally hyperbolic or b) referring to the Mirror likely running a nudey as most of the rags did... did Maxwell actually publish porn at the time? I thought Raymond and Sullivan had it all tied up by then.
  2. Not throwing doubt on the sources, but it would be fantastic if anyone knows sources for the actual coverage from Timeout and the like at the time, rather than reportage of the coverage. The reception section is a bit light due to the usual British comics thing of people rarely reviewing a whole anthology, so it would be great if any turned up.
  3. Image-wise it's a bit dry; I know that sounds daft when I've removed the banner but I feel it was unnecessary duplication when we have a cover with the masthead in the infobox.
  4. I know I've missed something in the collected editions but I'm damned if I can work out what.
  5. I love Pat Mills but he's very "old man shouts at cloud" these days, isn't he? BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 16:25, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's a very thorough rewrite, well done. It might go into a little more detail than necessary on publications that aren't Crisis, but we can have a look at that.
I think Mills tends to misdirect his criticisms sometimes. He claims Crisis tried to be "trendy" and imitate Deadline, when it didn't really - nowhere near so much as 2000AD and Revolver did, anyway. Crisis was always too earnest to be trendy, and the only strip I remember that had any affinity to Deadline was Philip Bond's "Angels Among Us", which was more straight-faced than anything he did in Deadline. It might have done better if it had tried to imitate Deadline, which was fun and sold well enough to last seven years - Crisis limited its audience by focusing so much on serious political issues, and only lasted three years. --Nicknack009 (talk) 11:45, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nicknack009 honestly I feel Mills' criticism is tempered by 3WW, however earnestly written, regularly grinding to a halt to lecture us all on something; personally I find New Statesmen stands up better even if it was abysmally edited...
Ideally I'd prefer both the reception and legacy to be a bit more balanced but really couldn't find much actually defending the thing.
Appreciate the comments re: focus, I do tend to wander though at the same time I feel a bit of context regarding the industry and the weird way British comics work (which we're all used to but must seem bizarre to others) are necessary for Wikipedia but always open to discussion and rewriting; the rewrite is by no means meant to imply perfection =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 13:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
