Curious about this one. I thought it could be worthwhile to have an inclusion of the general history of spanish currencies so users would be able to look at this article once and say "Oh, so that's the history of all of these bundled...", instead of having to go to each linked page to look at each one of them. I haven't contributed to other currency pages but I think a section on History would be appropriate and valuable. Briefly, there is an also a long and interesting history of Spanish currency being used as currency in other countries, particularly the real, including throughout Colonial North and South America. It was a big part of the global economy and facilitated international trade. It was the model for the US dollar (1792), and was actually legal tender in the US up to the Coinage Act (1857). There is also a lot of history regarding the sources of the gold and silver which are probably worth a quick mention/link to a few other pages (one of the opportunities I look for in contributing/suggesting). This is not a lot of text but integrates the role of currency in other aspects of history and prompts curiosity/exploration. Zatsugaku (talk) 13:53, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
