Suicide

[edit]

Without meaning to offend anyone who admires this man as some sort of hero, I understand being too tired to go on and wanting your life to be at an end, but to do it in a culturally specific way such as Seppuku when you aren't even a member of that culture is baffling and only served to make him seem very strange. Does anyone know anything about this man and what he may have been thinking to do something like this?--A. Renner 00:05, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

According to the article on him on the French Wikipedia, Fortin was an admirer of the writing of Yukio Mishima, a famous Japanese author of the 1950s and 1960s who ended his life by committing seppuku. Seems like an unpleasant way to die, but that is apparently why he did it. 174.99.95.218 (talk) 08:19, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He didn't just commit seppuku, that's for wimps. He committed jumonji-giri, which is seppuku without the kaishakunin to cut your head off. That's how really tough samurai did it. He was obviously trying to prove, after a lifetime of being called by a wimpy name like Dédé, just how tough he was. 71.52.135.202 (talk) 17:12, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
