Manchester United: Play Like Champions
[edit]There was a DVD called "Manchester United: Play Like Champions" that was released in 2003, in which Man Utd players were showing some kids how to do some of their signature tricks. I just saw a clip of this DVD on the Man Utd website, and I'm fairly sure that Danny Welbeck was one of the kids. Can anyone confirm this? – PeeJay 12:40, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- But how could this be possible if he joined the club in 2005? --Vicente2782 (talk) 18:34, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- First, why would he have to be part of the club to be on the DVD; and second, young players often train with clubs from the age of nine before signing on as academy trainees. I assume it was in 2005 that Welbeck signed on as a trainee but he had been training with the club's youth teams before then. – PeeJay 18:44, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
England Senior team
[edit]"However, Welbeck is still eligible to represent Ghana at international level due to the fact that his England debut was a friendly match" - I assume this line can now be removed as he has played for England in a competitive fixture? I will remove, but if my assumption is incorrect, please replace. 109.148.209.114 (talk) 21:02, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done thank you for noticing.

Ghanaian parents, English surname?
[edit]Are we sure that Danny doesn't have any ancestry that isn't Ghanaian?
Welbeck is a common English surname.
- I've reworded it to say that his parents are of Ghanaian descent. He obviously has some English heritage too. – PeeJay 13:16, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- Some of his ancensor might be but that just reduntant info if truth so it would not imporve the article. DoctorHver (talk) 21:19, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Text to change: "He joined United during the 2005–06 season,[citation needed] making his debut for the club's Under-18 side on 8 April 2006 in a league match against Sunderland. He then came on as a substitute in the next game, before being named as an unused substitute in the team's last two games of the season. The following season, he made a further 28 appearances for the Under-18s, scoring nine goals, including eight appearances and one goal in the FA Youth Cup, in which he helped the team to reach the final, despite being two years younger than some of the other players."
To be changed to "He joined the Mancheser United youth set-up in summer 2007 and played a prominent role in the Under-18 team’s run to the 2006/07 FA Youth Cup final. He scored nine goals in 14 starts for the Academy in 2007/08 and seven goals in 11 starts for the Reserves, including a hat-trick against Manchester City, helping the reserve team to both Manchester and Lancashire Senior Cup wins. Source: http://www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/First-Team/Danny-Welbeck.aspx
His performances earned him a call-up to the first-team squad for Manchester United's winter break to Saudi Arabia, where he came on as a 65th-minute substitute for Anderson as United were beaten 3-2 by Al Hilal in a testimonial match for Saudi legend Sami Al Jaber.

- The second part is barely-relevant trivia, and comes from an unreliable source that isn't suitable for a BLP (The Mirror). The first bit is a sensible change, and one I shall make for you. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 13:42, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Your version is remarkably similar to the text found in the sources you have provided, which creates suspicions of copyright violation. Furthermore, I have evidence that Welbeck was playing for the Manchester United youth teams well before the summer of 2007, which I will add to the article. – PeeJay 13:47, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

How is he not a utility player?
[edit]RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 20:09, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't see any content here. Please explain your position fully if you expect a reply. – PeeJay 20:28, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- My position is that Welbeck is a utility player, hence me providing sourced content to say he is able to play in multiple positions, the very definition of a utility player. I assumed this was obvious from me adding the category and then sourcing the edit. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 20:34, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Being able to play both centrally and out wide does not make you a utility player. When Welbeck plays out wide, it is as a wide forward, or at the very least a winger. For him to be considered a midfielder as well as a forward, he would have to be considered a left or right midfielder, in the same mould as David Beckham or Antonio Valencia. But he isn't, he's a forward, like Wilfried Zaha or Cristiano Ronaldo. – PeeJay 23:26, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- The same Cristiano Ronaldo who spent four years at United playing on the right side of midfield as a replacement for David Beckham? Were those four WIkipedia articles ALL incorrect, as well as the match reports they were sourced to? The same Danny Welbeck who I quoted as saying he was tired of playing on left midfield under three separate managers for club and country? It's almost like sourced content means nothing to you and you want to act like a petulant know-it-all. Grow up, troll. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 23:51, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Ronaldo never played as a right midfielder, he played as a right winger. Learn the difference and then get back to me. – PeeJay 07:57, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- It's funny how when I type Winger (association football) into Wikipedia, it redirects me to... the Wikipedia page for Midfield. This is indicative of the fact that being a winger is different from being a striker, and therefore, if somebody is able to play in both positions for, say, three seasons for club and country, that this would make this player a... UTILITY PLAYER. Even if we pretend Ronaldo didn't spend four seasons of his career playing on the right hand side of midfield and wasn't signed by Manchester United when David Beckham was sold, you're still ignoring four sourced Wikipedia articles saying he did. It's also funny that you're ignoring a recent quote from Danny Welbeck saying he wants to play as a striker again because he doesn't want to play on the left of midfield. Surely if they were the same role, he would have no problem? And I can't wait for you to tell me that Park Ji-Sung isn't a utility player because he only ever played in midfield, or that Phil Jones isn't a utility player because he only played as a defensive midfielder for a couple of years before reverting back to a defender. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 14:15, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

ARSENAL F.C Danny Welbeck has a 2015 FA Cup Winners medal this needs to be added in the honours section of this page
- Arsenal
Winner:
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.98.134.27 (talk) 20:11, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- I'm actually not sure Welbeck received a medal, since he wasn't in the matchday squad. Each final receives 30 medals to distribute as they choose among players and staff. You can safely assume players in the squad of 18 received medals, but I'm less certain about non-squad players. Mosmof (talk) 20:23, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
If you feature in any game in The FA Cup you qualify for a medal , and Welbeck featured in 3 FA Cup games including the Semi Final. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.98.134.27 (talk) 21:37, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- That seems tI contradict what I've seen, the FA Cup manual which says each finalist receives 30 medals with no criteria for who qualifies for one. Is this a club policy? This isn't to say you're wrong, but I haven't been able to verify that Welbeco got a medal or anything about automatically receiving a medal for appearing in any matche.
