Needs more info and some cleanup
[edit]Interesting article. Could use a little more information, for example: pictures at other phases of life; more discussion of his work as mayor; aspects of dealing with the recession and auto industry crunch.
A few included points raise questions.
"While working a construction site, a brick fell four stories onto his head, causing a brain clot." When did this occur? Did his father die?
"The honor was to be presented during the half-time show of the game..." Was it? If not, what happened subsequently?
"Bing volunteered in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program." When? Where? Anything special happen to the kids he mentored? Not quite explicit about the reason for the civil rights award. Was there a citation to go with the award? Apparently there are other kinds of civil rights involvement, as well.
Perhaps the good article at answers.com and references there would be a place to start. Wcmead3 (talk) 17:23, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Very funny thing! I reread this article, and had some comments to make about it. I was attracted to this comment by ... me!
I'd add that more coverage of Bing's political life would be interesting. He became mayor of Detroit at a time when the Great Recession was forming and at a place that was hard-hit. The power struggle that apparently defeated his efforts must have been remarkable, since one would think that his experience and success with both athletic teamwork and business would make him a nearly ideal person to deal with Detroit's crisis.
