The result of the move request was: Not moved. Editors don't agree that this guy is the primary topic of "David Hoffman". (non-admin closure) (t · c) buidhe 22:53, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– Per WP:NCDAB, I think this is a case in which all the articles listed on a disambiguation page can use natural disambiguation rather than parenthetical disambiguation to distinguish them. David Hoffman (jurist) is the only article linked from the David Hoffman disambiguation page with a parenthetically disambiguated title. All the other article titles use middle names or initials that naturally disambiguate them from David Hoffman (jurist). If this move request is approved, I think each article currently linked from the disambiguation page should include a Wikipedia:Hatnote to David Hoffman (disambiguation). • Oppose since several of them are sometimes known as just "David Hoffman", although I have put hatnote on the rest of the pages back to the DAB.--Ortizesp (talk) 00:53, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Ortizesp. There are eight men listed upon the David Hoffman disambiguation page with no indication that the thirteen-sentence entry for the American jurist from two hundred years ago delineates a scholar so celebrated throughout the English-speaking world and beyond that his notability exceeds the combined renown of the other seven men. As for addition of hatnotes atop entries for the other men named "David Hoffman" — such hatnotes are unnecessary per WP:NAMB. According to WP:NAMB, hatnotes should only be added if there is a possibility of confusion — in this case, there is no such possibility. Anyone who types "David Hoffman" will arrive at the David Hoffman disambiguation page where any uncertainty will be sorted out. Addition of unnecessary hatnotes only creates clutter. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 02:13, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose per page views. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:26, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The jurist is not the primary topic. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:05, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question So what I'm hearing is that, even though David Hoffman (jurist) is the only person listed on the disambiguation page without a middle name or middle initial, that approval of this move request is nevertheless contingent upon the jurist being the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC amongst all the articles listed on the disambiguation page? If so, then I don't support my own nomination because the jurist is clearly not the primary topic. I made this nomination because the move seemed natural to me since it appeared that we don't actually have multiple articles competing for the title "David Hoffman", so I didn't think this move request involved a discussion of primary topic status. But I hear what Ortizesp is saying that "several of them are sometimes known as just 'David Hoffman'", in which case perhaps one or more of these articles would use "David Hoffman" were it not for the other articles. I would appreciate if someone can confirm so I can better understand. This is my second move request. Dugan Murphy (talk) 23:20, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The parenthetical qualifier "(disambiguation)" is appended only to the main title headers of disambiguation pages that have primary topics. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 02:00, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I wouldn't have made this move request had I known. Dugan Murphy (talk) 19:22, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
