Wrist Cutting

In the article it says that Demi Lovato is a wristcutter, but yet there is little evidence to support that. Yes, Demi did used to listen to heavy metal and very hardcore rock in her younger days, but this does not support this stupid opinion. If you say something like " she must have she was wearing bands over her wrist to stop it from being shown" then you are stupid because as it were at that time alot of people wore fashion bands on their wrists. When someone suplies me with evidence for this then i will belive it, but until then i am completely protesting about the statement.

Nothing in the article says that she IS a wrist cutter, the article just states that there were photos that lead some people to think that she is a wrist cutter. FrehleySpace Ace 12:21, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes so if this statment is not a fact i do not see why it should be included in a biography of Demi. Its pointless and misleading, so why do it. As i said before about the photo alot of people were wearing gummy bracelets at this time as they were a big fashion hit. She wears them to accessorise like she would a belt or jewlery, not to cover up imaginary wrist cuts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benbenben1 (talkcontribs) 19:01, 17 February 2009
The statement in the article is factual:
1) photos of Lovato surfaced
2) some saw them as indicating Lovato is a wrist cutter
3) Lovato's publicist said not so.
You may not like the implication. You might think it has something to do with heavy metal. However, the article factually describes the incident. Nothing to do with heavy metal, nothing to do with anyone here speculating. - SummerPhD (talk) 19:10, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Again so why is this section of the article up on the biography it is certainly misleading and although you are fighting a good fight to us, now many people will still not hear what you are saying about this so therefore it is misleading and quite purposfully or it would not be there. Why bring it up if you do not want slate Demi? Also i didnt say it had anything to do with heavy metal if you read it properly i said that demi used to listen to metal but this does not mean she slits her wrists. I admit first off i was wrong about the statement not being a fact but it is misleading in many ways. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benbenben1 (talkcontribs) 20:13, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Judging from SummerPhD's edit history, I doubt she wants to "slate" Demi Lovato. I suspect she is just one of the few adults that has volunteered to wade through the quagmire of Disney Channel articles in order to protect them from their fans.—Kww(talk) 20:19, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I did not mean that SummerPhD is out to slate Demi Lovato. I doubt she is. I ment whoever has put the article into the biography has clearly put it in to slate her. Also wouldnt trying to delete this article do good for the millions of children that google Demi Lovatos name every day. I mean saying that Demi Lovato - A well known Disney Icon - might self harm isnt the best example as alot of kids these days copy there idols. There is enough of these kids who kill themselfs in the news already. Sorry to go to extremes, but you get me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benbenben1 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
I would have no problem removing that part as I don't see how it adds anything to the understanding of the personal life of Lovato. It is factually reporting the false perception of others saying more about the reporters and gossipers, not of Lovato. It is basically saying there was this perception of Lovato and it is false. Why have referenced-to-be-false information in the article? Leaving it in the article does flavor the perceptions towards Lovato and that is on the edge of derogatory. --NrDg 20:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, someone who agrees with what i am saying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benbenben1 (talkcontribs) 21:01, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I removed that info per above and Wikipedia:Blp#Basic_human_dignity. If anybody wants it back please continue the discussion here instead of reverting. --NrDg 22:28, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

That seems reasonable. (Note: Though I did not add that particular section, I did substantially reword it[1][2] and improve the sourcing[3]. Slating Lovato was not my intent, I think the Disney-related articles (generally) need serious work. Edits to these articles seem to fall into three categories: 1) 49.5% fawning (X is a squeaky-clean Christian and best friends with every other squeaky-clean Disney star) 2) 49.5% slamming (X said something really rude and likes death metal) 3) 1% moderating and sourcing 1 & 2. As a type 3 editor here, I tend to suspect any edit that seems to fit #1 or #2 and stick with the sources. Source what you add (to reliable sources, not blogs) and cite policies/guidelines and you won't have problems with me. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:25, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
The original was added, removed, then added again by the same editor. I chose to not make a fuss at that time to see how this played out as it was referenced. I didn't like it then either. This article gets regularly protected to reduce the fawning/slamming. I strongly appreciate your efforts to help keep these articles within WP:BLP bounds. I does seem a bit like a quagmire at times. --NrDg 16:13, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
[4] I didn't realize this was removed. If a rumour gets traction, in many cases I think it's good to report the denial of the rumour, or it just keeps coming back here. Gimmetrow 22:08, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Female rock singers and American rock singers??!

I was browsing the Category:Female rock singers and Category:American rock singers, and I must say It's was kind of weird seeing Demi Lovato on it (since she does Teen pop, Pop rock). Look I know pop rock has some influence from rock music but so does Indie pop (that's more from alternative rock) and Electric folk, and they are not rock just influenced by it. Please she doesn't belong in that category. If she does then be sure to include her in Category:American rock singer-songwriters category! If no one replies in a day I will personally remove it myself. Unless anyone says against it. I also can't believe she's not included in the Category:American pop singers categories. Cutting Controversy

In Early 2009 rumors aroused about Demi possibly being a cutter. In a picture of her at Miley's sweet 16 she had her wrist hanging out and thee were indintations on her wrist that looked like cut marks. Her rep responded by saying they were bracelet marks that really tight on her. But many people think she is because she wears a lot of balck some of her music dark or punkish and she wears dark makeup. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tyle792 (talkcontribs) 21:12, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Cutting Rumors

Lovato has a cut on her wrist earlier in the year. She told the media that she was wearing jelly bracelets for months. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pequelisious (talkcontribs) 04:06, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

There's a section above this one discussing this. WAVY 10 Fan (talk) 15:56, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

bullying

why dont it say that she got bullied in 6th grade and then got home schooled in 7th grade. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emily513 (talkcontribs) 19:10, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you have a source to confirm that? --FrehleySpace Ace 19:14, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

the source i have is that she said it in the Ellen DeGeneres show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZvoxrd5Xtw —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emily513 (talkcontribs) 18:56, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

bullied

Demi said in a teen magazine interview that she was bullied by mean girls and had Selena’s help through it. She also left public school because of the bullying and started to be home schooled. I believe that it was the J-14 magazine or the M magazine one of those teen magazines. I think that this should be in the Early Life or Personal Life Section cause it is kind of important.DemiLovatoWishes (talk) 22:41, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Give us a link to the interview or tell us the exact month/magazine the interview was in and it can be added. Until then it should stay out. --FrehleySpace Ace 04:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Demi and Bullying

Demi Lovato has definitely dealt with bullying. She said some bullies once egged her car. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.187.47.84 (talk) 22:23, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Philanthropic efforts

I think Demi's philanthropic efforts on behalf of protecting children from domestic violence is definitely worthy of mention. She is listed as a member of the celeb board of governors of Love Our Children USA, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting kids from domestic violence.

Generally, this is considered trivial unless and until it is mentioned by a reliable source that is independent of Lovato and the organization. Basically, celebrities are fairly eager to "sign on" with a non-controversial cause without really doing anything for the cause for PR purposes. The charity, meanwhile, is eager to sign on as many non-controversial celebrities for similar reasons, even if the celebs don't really do anything other than allow the use of their names. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:47, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

That may be so, but YouTube isn't good for a source, since that video isn't from an official user such as a Official TV Newtork or the such. Otherwise just citing a YouTube video can lead to copyright problems.--Rockin56 (talk) 18:47, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Lovato Last Name

To be precise, the origin of the last name is Venetian. Go to this site (http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/genera.html) and enter "lovato" under COGNOME in the upper left corner. You will see how this last name is highly concentrated in Veneto. Precisely, it is from the foothills of the Dolomites in Vicenza's province, one hour West from Venice. The original village is "Contrada Lovati" in San Quirico, a fraction of Valdagno (Vicenza). You can see it on google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=contrada%20lovati&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl Cheers, Bolivendarsen (talk) 01:57, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Age & Year Discrepancy (Barney)

She had a role in Barney in 2002 and 2003, and she was born in 1992. Wouldn't this make her between 10 and 11, but not 6? It says she began her acting at the age of six... is there an error somewhere?

It would appear based on this article and the Barney article that her role was in 1998. Where are you getting 2002?—Kww(talk) 01:05, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
At the bottom in her filmogrophy, it says 2002-2003, not 1998... which would mean the year is either wrong, or her age is wrong...

This article above my text is WRONG!! She WAS born in 1992, but her role was in 1999. Which means she WAS 6 or 7 at the time when she was on Barney. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!

Where was Demi born

People are saying Dallas, Texas, but on her live chat she said that she was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also, on the Camp Rock What's What? Edition. It says Demi Lovato plays Mitchie. She is born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PeaceLovex3 (talkcontribs) 15:49, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Here We Go Again

I think it should be mentioned somewhere in this article that John McLaughlin, William Beckett Jr. and John Mayer helped on the album.Kaleigh.xo (talk) 19:48, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

It's mentioned in the album's article and it's irrelevant here. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 00:27, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
It does state that she worked with the Jonas Brothers for Don't Forget in this article, but I think that there are too many people for Here We Go Again and I agree people can find the information on the article's page unless only a couple of the many people she worked with are mentioned but that might make trouble with agreeing on it.--Rockin56 (talk) 01:27, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Demi Lovato is of Italian, Irish & Hispanic origin

Albuquerque, New Mexico or Dallas Texas

I'm having a problem. Even though there is a source saying she was born in Dallas, Texas, her live facebook video chat on YouTube said otherwise. See Demi Lovato- Facebook Live Chat Part 1 7/16/09. 4:01 minutes in. Demi Lovato confirms that she was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when a fan asked her if shes ever been to Albuquerque via comment. So she confirmed she was born in Albuquerque, but the source in Early life says she was born in Dallas. Which one is it. Don't you think we should go with Albuquerque because Lovato confirmed it? GreenBayPackersfan09 (talk) 11:00, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Albuquerque seems like the correct place to add because Demi herself said that's where she was born. I've seen YouTube videos used as sources/references before, but each time the video was from an official account. Not a fan account or from a random person that uploaded the video, so i think that may be the problem with the video you linked above. Frehley 14:37, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
An unofficial YouTube video can never be used as a source. Never.—Kww(talk) 01:29, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Agreed with Kww. She may have said it, but you're going to need a better source than YouTube, especially when the video was not uploaded by Lovato herself. Pokerdance (talk/contribs) 03:47, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Her IMDB Profile says Albuquerque, so what happends? She said it and the profile says it. Is that not source enough? I think so. So let it be possible.bjj07 (talk/ contribs) 09:54. 22 September 2009 (UTC)

IMDB is not a reliable source. Frehley 09:34, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

You should change Demi's profile picture

It really doesn't look like her now . So I think the editors should keep things up to date. Please &thank you . —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jojomyanna (talkcontribs) 04:29, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

I think her genre should be power pop and pop rock, her main genre is pop rock, but her music is heavly influenced with power pop (such as remember december and Get Back). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Demi1993 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
