Written by his best friend?

[edit]

This reads like it was written by a family member or a friend, being full of "Denys did this, Denys did that". When not using a person's full name, we use their surname, not their given name, because the latter is far too familiar for encyclopedic writing. Just imagine if the article on David Cameron talked about "David did this, David did that". Appropriate? Hardly. Well, the same rule applies anywhere else. -- ♬ Jack of Oz[your turn] 12:12, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It could be improved in the manner you suggest. One problem is that he changed his surname from Baker to Val Baker. So this would mean calling him "Val Baker" at a time when he was in reality simply "Baker", or visa versa.

While on this point, I see there has been an edit stating that he "changed his writing surname to Val Baker in honour of his father". I am pretty sure it was a deed poll change, not a pen name change. I'll have to check. -- ALGRIF talk 17:53, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
