Although the awards that DVH has received seem to indicate a well run facility, it is commonly referred to within the region as "Death Valley Hospital". Throughout the surrounding community, it's a common sight to see cars with bumper stickers reading "Desert Valley Hospital Killed My _____" (son, daughter, mother, etc.) The local stories speak of a place where the doctors and nurses are so frightened of the hospital's director that they don't dare to speak up in contradiction with his orders, which are not generally considered to be in the patients' best interests, and statistics show a staggering fatality rate of those coming in to the ER... the highest in the state. Scary stuff.
