Dimorphotheca or Osteospermum?

[edit]

The image on the page claims to be Osteospermum ecklonis, not Dimorphotheca ecklonis. That's also the name by which I know it. I've read that Dimorphotheca is supposed to be annual, while Osteospermum is supposed to be perennial, but that's a weak differentiation. I have flowers that look identical to the photo, and they're definitely perennial.

Unfortunately, I don't know much background. But the current article should at least mention this issue, and preferably present a justification for calling these flowers Dimorphotheca. Groogle (talk) 02:00, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These are synonyms according to the Dimorphotheca ecklonis taxobox, though a citation is needed. Unfortunately my work on synonymy was effectively stopped. Rich Farmbrough, 15:27, 14 December 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Star of the veldt

[edit]

I have created a redirect to Dimporpotheca, since I was told that "star of the veldt" is D. calendulecea yet this page says it is D. sinuata, and Dimorphotheca ecklonis also claims the common name. A more informed person my wish to add and remove the common name form the appropriate places. Rich Farmbrough, 15:27, 14 December 2012 (UTC).[reply]
