[edit]- Does this phone close up? You know, like a razr. This being the primary and only reason for buying a razr to avoid ass-dialing the boss and unwittingly presenting him with your tourette's problem. If this phone does not close or allows dialing when closed then it is an epic fail for the name razr. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.250.99.163 (talk) 19:25, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Requested move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: articles moved. The fact that the shorter titles already redirect to the longer ones is the argument that clinches it. fish&karate 14:36, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Motorola Droid RAZR → Droid RAZR
- Motorola Droid 2 → Droid 2
- Motorola Droid 3 → Droid 3
- Motorola Droid Bionic → Droid Bionic
Motorola Droid Pro → Droid Pro- Motorola Droid X → Droid X
- Samsung Droid Charge → Droid Charge
- HTC Droid Incredible → Droid Incredible
Droid RAZR already redirects here so this topic is the primary topic; that's not an issue. Similar argument for all the other Droids. While Droid requires disambiguation, and is naturally disambiguated at Motorola Droid by adding the manufacturer to the title, none of these other uses requires disambiguation, and so including the manufacturer in the title is unnecessary precision. Born2cycle (talk) 17:34, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose "Droid" is hardly universally known as a cellphone, since "droid" is the abbreviation for "android" and "Droid" is trademarked by LucasFilm for Star Wars. As for people searching for the topic, they could easily be looking for Star Wars material, since it's a popular topic of interest in the world at large. "Droid Charge" is hardly unambiguous, considering that Star Wars has several battle charges by droids, and that "charge" on a "droid" refers to the amount remaining in the battery capacity of a robot. Google also brings up "Motorola Droid 2" and "Motorola Droid 3" as top hits for titles instead of just "Droid 2" or "Droid 3", if it were so universal, the titles coming up wouldn't have "Motorola" attached. Ditto "Droid X". The set term being used on titles seems to be "Motorola Droid 2", "Motorola Droid 3", "Motorola Droid X", "Motorola Droid X2". "Droid charge" seems to bring up some hits about battery life. "Droid Incredible", "Droid Bionic" and "Droid Pro" seems to have split title usage from Google. "Droid RAZR" seems to be the preferred title on Google though. 70.24.251.158 (talk) 11:27, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- There is no proposal here about moving Droid - it remains a dab page. Each of these topics, including the one currently at Samsung Droid Charge, is already the primary topic for the respective proposed title. If there really is an ambiguity issue with Droid Charge or any of the others, then they should not be redirects to these articles. Is that what you're saying? If so, what do you believe should be at these titles? If you think they're fine as the redirects that they currently are, then your oppose is really baseless. --Born2cycle (talk) 18:09, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Comment. I'm removing Motorola Droid X2 → Droid X2 from the list because both are redirects to Motorola Droid X. --Born2cycle (talk) 18:11, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose - while Droid RAZR may not need disambiguation, some of those others definitely do, and it's better to be consistent with our article naming across the product line. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 20:35, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Which ones of the proposed new titles "definitely need disambiguation", and why? --Born2cycle (talk) 20:37, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- Droid 2 and 3, definitely, and Droid Pro is pretty generic as well. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:21, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- I don't understand. Droid 2, Droid 3 each redirect to the respective articles - they are not ambiguous or "generic" (for WP purposes) by definition. The respective Motorola phones are the primary topics for these names. In fact, the article on the Pro is at Droid Pro already. I honestly don't know what to make of your objections. It makes no sense. --Born2cycle (talk) 21:27, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
- For example, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Unidentified_B1_battle_droid_2_%28Geonosis%29. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 13:38, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Still not following. How is an external link relevant to this discussion/decision? Are you suggesting we should have an article about that topic, and that it is notable enough for the phone to not be the primary topic for "Droid 2", so that Droid 2 should be a dab page that links to that topic as well as to the phone? Unless you are willing to create that article and show that it's sufficiently notable for the phone to not be the primary use of "Droid 2" (which is contrary to what is indicated by a quick google search), I call WP:CRYSTAL. --Born2cycle (talk) 17:25, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose Take away the manufacturer and it makes everything harder to find.Cooldra01 (talk) 13:23, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- How is "Droid RAZR" harder to find than "Motorola Droid RAZR", especially considering the latter will still redirect to this article? --Born2cycle (talk) 18:18, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Support move. Yes, "droid" has multiple meanings, which is why Droid is a disambiguation page. However, all of the listed titles are much very more likely to refer to the cell phone, so there's no need to disambiguate by adding the manufacturer to the title. Jafeluv (talk) 22:34, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
- Support—I'm not super enthusiastic about 2 and 3, but we should probably do all these for the reasons outlined. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 05:04, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

International name?
[edit]I went around Motorola sites in different countries, and this "Droid RAZR" is more commonly named as "Motorola RAZR" or sometimes appended with "XT910". Apparently the name "Droid RAZR" is only used in United States and I am curious why this page is not called "Motorola RAZR" instead.
I agree disambiguation from the previous feature phones (V3, V8, V9, ...) might be a problem, but this does not mean "Motorola RAZR" is not a more well-known name of Motorola RAZR, especially after Motorola RAZR was launch worldwide. – PeterCX&Talk 09:48, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
US Centric
[edit]The article seems very US centric with the info box quoting US carrier and prices in US$. Is that just as it is out of date and was first released only in USA? Billlion (talk) 12:32, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- The price shouldn't have been included at all as per WP:NOPRICES, hence I have removed it. YuMaNuMa Contrib 02:54, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- The who article is US-centric IMO. Worldwide, this is called the Motorola RAZR, it is only called the DROID RAZR on Verizon Wireless in the US. I don't think that it is appropriate to remove the "Motorola" from the name of these devices. Shritwod (talk) 14:55, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
