Is he a Muslim? --Striver 22:05, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, he is a Bahai - --193.136.128.14 16:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, he's not Bahai. Iranica has officially refuted the AFP report about his religion. --Mardavich 11:24, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He was never a Baha'i for him to be a former Baha'i, and thus I'm removing the cat. -- Jeff3000 (talk) 22:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just for further discussion, unlike Islam, where one is a Muslim if they are born in a Baha'i family, one does not become a Baha'i by being born in a Baha'i family. One has to actively choose to be a Baha'i after they reach the age of majority. See Chehabi, H.E. (2008), "Anatomy of Prejudice", in Brookshaw; Fazel, Seena B. (eds.), The Baha'is of Iran: Socio-historical studies, New York, NY: Routledge, pp. 188–189, ISBN 0-203-00280-6 {{citation}}: Missing pipe in: |editor= (help); More than one of |editor= and |editor-last= specified (help) for more info. The Iranica statement clearly states that while he was born in a Baha'i family, he has had no affiliation with the religion, and thus he was never a Baha'i. Can not edit intro

[edit]

Prof Yarshater is not "one" of Iranica's editors. He is the "Founder and General Editor". Also, there have been so far more than 1,300 contributing specialists, not just 300. His body of work is much, much greater than what is listed here.

Can someone help by telling me how to edit the intro? Mahmoud — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.121.122.144 (talk) 23:17, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Iranian atheists!?

[edit]

In the categories section, there are "Former Bahá'ís" and "Iranian atheists" but I can't find any reference for that and it is not mentioned in the article. so I think it should be erased until there will be a reference to it. --SerendiPity (talk) 15:44, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

First Persian full-time Professor

[edit]

It is stated in the current version of the article that Professor Yarshater "was the first Persian full-time professor at a U.S. university since World War II". However, the source quoted to back this statement (a NYT article) doesn't say such a thing. What it says is that E. Yarshater was the "first full-time professor of Persian at an American university since World War II". Since there is a huge difference between being the first Persian/Iranian scholar getting a full professorship in the US since WWII and being the first full professor of Persian language (in the same place/period), I propose to amend this phrase to align it with the source. (I tried to do this but my change was promptly reversed.) Biruni01 (talk) 09:48, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
