Eora Whale?

[edit]

It seems to be a mistake. Whoever added that information probably meant the area of Be'er Ora (Hebrew - באר אורה), translation Ora Well. Derwig 08:52, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Typo?

[edit]

"Despite these limitations, the airport successfully handles ten to twenty times more traffic than aircraft of a comparable size." isn't this "other airports" of a comparable size? Tim Vickers 16:06, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA review

[edit]

Hello. I have reviewed the article and have the following comments before I'll pass it to good article status:

  • "Aircraft which cannot, use Ovda International Airport." - firstly, don't see the need for the comma, secondly, the sentence feels awkward to read, consider flowing it into the previous sentence somehow.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • When it closes for civilian purposes, is there anticipation that it will be used for other (military?) purposes? Could add this if citable.
No it isnt so left as is--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • The History section needs to be flowed into a couple of large paragraphs and, for example, ref [2], needs only be used once, at the end of the paragraph, not six consecutive times, once per sentence.

Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Use non-breaking spaces between values and units, so 1900 m instead of 1900m - per WP:UNITS
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In 1975, Eilat Airport started to attract Scandinavian airlines, thanks to the climate which Eilat boasts." - doesn't read nicely (particulalry the final part), but moreover, it's original research unless you've got a citation for it.
Remove that --Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The concept and agreement was never greatly promoted..." not good grammar.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fix "2,800m&sup2 ", and don't forget the non-breaking space!
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "...kept flying-around ..." - is that the techincal term?! I'd rephrase.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "...NIS 5.5 million..." - what is this? Presumably Israeli currency but not clear - wikilink at the least.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Non-breaking space for 20km.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Last para in Future section has no references.
Cant source so removed - perhaps original research - but I dont know--Flymeoutofhere 09:13, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Give me a shout when you're ready for re-review. All the best, The Rambling Man 07:06, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More comments:

  • Avoid "wasn't" etc.
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • " 2,800 2" - is there a letter m missing?
Done--Flymeoutofhere 09:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then you're done. The Rambling Man 09:47, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're done, it's a GA now. Good work. The Rambling Man 10:15, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First international flights?

[edit]

The article states that: "In 1975, Eilat Airport started to attract Scandinavian airlines. The first international flight arrival to Eilat, of the Danish airline, Sterling Airlines landed in this year."

However, the airport served Arkia for decades prior to that (and still does). Arkia, while primarily a domestic carrier, had international flights to Cyprus.

Any chance there were Eilat <-> Cyprus routes? For that matter, Eilat <-> Lud (Ben Gurion) <-> Cyprus would also be international...

Anyone know?

Mistranslation?

[edit]

The header in hebrew reads "שְׂדֵה הַתְּעוּפָה אֵילַת" but the transliteration reads "Namal HaTe'ufa Eilat". The first word should be transliterated as "Sdeh", not as "Namal". Is this intentional somehow?
