He lived in San Pedro California at the end of life. He is listed in the San Pedro wiki article. I have been to his house.

Random thoughts many years later.

[edit]

The Internet in general and Wikipedia in particular are so valuable as research tools when it comes to what are considered fairly obscure topics or people notable mainly to small fringes. This entire article is an ideal example of that.

I came to this page because I was letting my mind wander and thinking about things from my teenage years, and what came up all of a sudden was thinking of the adult magazines I used to read or buy in bookstores. I remembered some of the odder things that stuck in my memory, and in several was an advertisement in the back pages that was a black and white picture that showed a woman's legs in hose in the primary part of the picture one atop the other, her smiling face in the back, and the text read: "If this type of leg-art turns you TURGID, contact Elmer Batters at (an address or phone number). While never a leg-fetishist myself, this very strange ad with the very strange name Elmer Batters stuck in my head and would float to the surface from time to time. Today, it happened to float to the surface while I was infront of my keyboard. I punched in the name on duckduckgo figuring it would be too obscure, but maybe I might find an image of the old ad to see if it matched my memory. Instead I found what I should have checked for in the first place: this Wikipedia article. Just enough information to satisfy my curiosity, and a picture of the man who looked absolutely NOTHING like I expected him to, although I would guess that his look would be considered rather bizarre by 1940s-50s USA standards.

So that's all. I just wanted to thank the writer of this article, and the editors who decided it was notable enough.

Thanks for the note. I didn't start the article, but did a bit of work to get it properly source, cleaned up, and fleshed out. I agree with you about a broad range of coverage is part of our mission. After all, it was Mr. Wales vision of "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing." Cheers. :) --Surv1v4l1st Talk|Contribs 17:42, 9 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
