[edit]@Schwede66: I've created a Farewell Spit Lighthouse article in my sandbox, however when I try to move it, an error pops up to say the article already exists. It doesn't. It's just a redirect to the Farewell Spit article. Can you help, please? Herewhy (talk) 22:52, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Adding Infobox for the original lighthouse
[edit]@MSGJ: After seeing the great work you did adding data and an Infobox for the original lighthouse at Matiu / Somes Island Lighthouse, I would like to try to do the same with this article about the Farewell Spit Lighthouse. This should be a good learning exercise for me. Can you please keep a watch on this page, and help me out if I get stuck ? One small point I am unsure about is the label of the new Wikidata entry that is needed in Wikidata for the original lighthouse. Here is the Wikidata item for the present lighthouse: [1]. Can I just create a new item labelled Farewell Spit Lighthouse (original), or (1870) or similar - is there any convention for labelling ? Thanks -- Marshelec (talk) 02:59, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sure I will help. We don't generally disambiguate using the label, that is what the description is for. So you can use "Farewell Spit Lighthouse" for the label and then something like "lighthouse built in 1870" for the description. By the way there are some statements on Farewell Spit Lighthouse (Q1396564) which might need to move to the new item (for example the inception 1870) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:48, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have created a new Wikidata item for the original lighthouse see Wikidata:Q112845558. I have cleaned up the item for the existing lighthouse Wikidata:Q1396564, and then followed the "embed" format you applied for Matiu / Somes Island to include the second infobox in the article. It seems to have worked well. However, I still have questions about the identifiers because of my lack of famililarity with Wikidata. So far, I have not added any identifiers to the Wikdata item for the original lighthouse Wikidata:Q112845558. I presume the identifiers should be only about the current lighthouse. Is that correct ? - Good job! The identifiers are most likely related to the current light, especially if the original lighthouse no longer exists. To be sure (in case any identifiers are ever added to the original entry, I have added an additiona qid to the authority control template. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:44, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- You might find the moveClaim gadget useful on Wikidata when moving claims from one item to another — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:55, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
