Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that Florence station (Amtrak) and Atlantic Coast Line Depot (Florence, South Carolina) be merged here under the title Florence station (South Carolina). These buildings are both owned by McLeod Regional Medical Center at the same location, and used by Amtrak at some time. One completely unreferenced article is about the older historic building (constructed in 1910 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad) and the smaller adjoining one (built in 1996) is the current location for train service. Amtrak's Great American Stations considers the station to have one history. Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:06, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Weak Support - I never liked the idea of a separate article if the both of them couldn't be expanded. Having said that, I want to see more evidence of more former railroad stations within Florence, even if the Wilmington & Manchester Railroad, the "North Eastern Railroad," and the Cheraw & Darlington Railroad were all acquired specifically by Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. If there's nothing to indicate a former Southern Railway or Norfolk and Western Railroad station, or some other company having a station in town, I can go along with your suggestion. Otherwise, I'd just prefer to move the former ACL station article to Florence station (Amtrak). ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:41, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support this move; seems reasonable. When both topics can just as easily be covered at the same place, it's generally better to have one good article than two weak ones. Florence station (South Carolina) would then be the recommended title per WP:USSTATION.Cúchullain t/c 18:07, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Let me make this clear. There are not two stations or topics. There is only one railroad station with two buildings. The new compact one, like at many other Amtrak stations, was built to replace an old disfunctional building. There are probably more Amtrak stations like this, than those which still use the large historic building. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:14, 30 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

: I've completed this merge from Atlantic Coast Line Depot (Florence, South Carolina). There were no sources, so there wasn't much to merge, but hopefully someone will come along and expand the article.--Cúchullain t/c 15:10, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
