FORT HOPE [7/10]

‘'FORT HOPE'’ (Lab Records)

This new EP from Fort Hope, a band composed of former My Passion members, is a solid effort. Highlights include the melodramatic ‘Crosses (And So We Dig)’ and ‘Sick’, which boasts melodies and hooks aplenty. But a formula of pared-back verses and soaring hooks develops on here, and occasionally starts to wear thin. At least they pull no punches on ‘Plans’; a promising departure from the rest of the record. Its heavy riffs contrast nicely with Jon Gaskin’s soft vocals, and is hopefully an indication that there are bigger and better things to come from the Hertfordshire trio.[1]
