Regency?

[edit]

What does "It is the oldest church in its regency" mean? churches don't have regencies, kings do, see regency.... Sadads (talk) 17:16, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regency is a subdivision of an Indonesian province.Wkharrisjr (talk) 18:31, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I clarified it for an international audience with a link and a rewrite of the term. Thought for future articles: anytime that you use a term that has official or cultural implications in a certain region but isn't broadly used, include a link to an article which explains it. Does the term "administrative regency" clarify it? Something needs to indicate that it is something different than most English speakers would expect, Sadads (talk) 19:16, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian terminology?

[edit]

Several terms in this article seem unusual for a Catholic church. For example:

  • The honorific "Pr." is used before several priests names. Is this an abbreviation for "Pastor" or "Priest" is is this the abbreviation of the Indonesian word for "father"?
  • The church is referred to at least once as a "temple". "Church" or "sanctuary" is the more appropriate Catholic word.
  • "Accommodations for pastors"- I think the term should be rectory as this is the place of residence for priests (not just pastors).

Should I edit these and other such phrases or are these the accepted terms in Indonesia?Wkharrisjr (talk) 18:40, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Re: temple: As the article clearly states, the church site is also home to a Hindu-style temple. "The congregation began construction of a 10-metre (33 ft) tall Hindu-styled temple (candi)". That is the temple referred to. Pr. is the standard Indonesian abbreviation for pastor (Father is, in Ganjuran at least, translated as Romo, or Rm., which would be even less understood internationally than Pr.) — Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:43, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I learn that Rantemario are hoarding too many images in gallery, which I think is overwhealming the article. Remember WP:NOTGALLERY, wikipedia article is not a gallery to store and display images, only selected images are placed in the article. Plus, that is the use of link to Wikimedia Commons Category on bottom right side to guide reader to Wikimedia Commons Cat page.
