[edit]

The Hartman reference, and the biography of Prynne by Kelway, both refer to Prynne's curate as "F. Darling". There is a contemporary newpaper report (Morning Post, 18 November 1852) that makes it clear that this is the Rev. Frederick Darling. It is very likely that this is Frederick Darling the eldest son of Ralph Darling, a graduate of Oriel College, Oxford, who a few years before 1852 was curate at Tewkesbury, and somewhat later a curate at Hurstpierpoint. Needs a bit more research.

"Presbyter Anglicanus" is Joseph H. Harris (Hartman), sometimes identified as Joseph Harrington Harris [1]; but Halkett [2] is more credible, and matches the person in [3].

Fortescue is incorrectly given as "A. H. Fortescue" in Hartman, but the bibliography gives R. H. Fortescue, and so Robert Henry. Charles Matthews (talk) 22:25, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Under "absence of evidence", maybe. But I think if there were another Rev. Frederick Darling of the period, I would have found him by now. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
