I edited the last paragraph, as it was obviouly added on by someone different, and the spelling and grammar needed urgent attention. The rewrite I did is based off the German version of this page. I deleted the reference to future cooperation between DP and CDU/CSU or FDP, as the chance of the DP even winning one seat in the Bundestag or Landtage is remote. If you are unhappy with my edit, feel free to change, as this was just changing the more obvious errors. Thx

Given the obvious political irrelevance of all parties which chose to use the label "German Party" after 1965, the two sections dealing with the period 1961-80 and current events should be shortened considerably. A text that is about equally split between 1869 to 1960 on the one hand and 1961 to present on the other is an unbalanced treatment of historical facts and misleading to readers who are not familiar with German parties and/ or German politics. (Just for the sake of comparison look at the article on Centre Party (Germany), the proportions of it devoted to past and present are much more appropriate!)

Moreover, I would like to question the rating tag (Wiki Project Germany) as far as historical importance of the party between 1869 and 1960 is concerned. The old "Welf Party" was an important part of the regional opposition (Welfs, Polish minority and Alsace-Lorraine represented various peripheries of the Imperial "unification") to Bismarck and his successors. During the Weimar Republic the DHP was instrumental in electing Hindenburg to the presidency and in 1949 the DP was an absolute necessity for the parliamentary majority of Adenauer's "bourgeois" coalition. Thus, without the "German Parties" the history of Germany might have taken different turns/routes. Khnassmacher (talk) 17:51, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
