[edit]I think a google will reveal that Gil Fronsdal is influential enough to warrant a Wikipedia article. He is a major figure in American Buddhism if the notion of "majorness" can be measured by the number of google entries.
- Not to mention the number of podcasts he has put out into the world. Just look for him on iTunes. 65.12.135.63 04:31, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Theravada or Soto Zen?
[edit]The article says that he is both Theravada and Zen. That doesn't really make sense. How can he be both? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rabuve (talk • contribs) 22:56, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Theravada and Zen are not necessarily mutually exclusive. After all, both traditions are Buddhist and teach the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. Furthermore, as mentioned in the article, Gil Fronsdal trained extensively in both.
- However, this is an excellent question. At Insight Meditation Center (IMC), which seems to have a Theravadan orientation, I myself once asked Mr. Fronsdal why he left Zen. He immediately replied that he never did.

- However, religion-school are presented as a hierarchy. While he might consider himself a member of several schools, it doesn't fit in the religion-school hierarchy in the wikipedia article.
