Aparantly their changing the slogan from Labor Omnia Vincit to Where Bogans Unite. I personally think the second one is more appropriate. The school is actually very bad. In the recent years it has gone down hill rapidly. I have 3 children, 1 completed yr 12 at gihs 4 years ago and we were all happy with it, but my 2nd child did yr 8 there before we took her out in disgust. The teachers are terrible, and say very inappropriate things. International and IGNITE students recieve main funding the rest get a second level education. The buildings are terrible learning environments and the technology is lacking. I would not reccomend it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.168.216.252 (talk) 07:31, 22 September 2010 (UTC) hahaha this was obviously written by a faculty member or some ignite student.[reply]

I'm in Ignite this year and it's kind of hard. One of my ignite friends got an E+ in maths, so there's that if you're looking at Glenunga in 2022. AshesToAshton (talk) 07:30, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

lol lot is true but maybe they should show how much the government gives resource wise compared to other schools?

The text is mostly written by a ignite student, so yeah - you're right. Cheers, - >>michaelg | talk 13:29, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You're not an Ignite kid, michaelg. :-P misanthrope
I didn't write it. michael talk 05:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was a SHIPpie before they changed the name to Ignite, and there were rumours at the school back then that the program used to be called Students with High Intellectual Talent (instead of Potential) Sensei baka 02:20, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

from sven the llama i think this artice is quite wrong. Has anybody thought of mentioning all of the stupid rules that people make that limit the freedom of the students? Perhaps somebody should mention that, a more honest, and less biased view would be preferable.

Thats not really appropriate - and the article is hardly biased; its supposed to be an encylopedic entry so all the stupid rules, whilst very real and very annoying dont really have a place. Immanuel goldstein

Point of View (Neutrality) Flag: Reasoning

[edit]

I recently placed a point of view check flag in this article as it seems to be advertising the school by metioning new facilities at the school. Also, by mentioning student life activities avaliable, this is further advertising. Seeing as these extra-curricular activites are not run by the school, but rather persons within the school, and thus I do not believe that this can be attributed to the school. Generally taking the stance of this school being good where it cannot be proved is also biased. To counteract this issue of baseless advertising, information on the Open Day and other events should be provided on this page (merely providing a link to the school website does not, in my opinion, suffice). Remember folks, this be an open encyclopedia, and it takes trust to not have to protect against advertising abuses.--Tspshilt 12:13, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So fix it. michael talk 12:14, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed at least one of my issues by registering - it is open, you are welcome to edit but it is better done as a registered user. I certainly won't remove the NPOV marker and will look forward to your edits - all the best -- Nigel (Talk) 12:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tho I confess I do not see the computer network problems as being a wiki issue and would probably revert them as I have in the past - I look forward to hearing why you considered it so vital to an encyclopedia article? -- Nigel (Talk) 12:19, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am indeed a student at the school, so while, to be fair, this leaves my point of view biased, This does not make it justifiable of all authors to be intentionally biasd. I have registered as it is a point in saying that flying abuse without being at least slightly traceable is also unfair (and underhanded). but, this is an open content pencyclopedia and anyone who has the internet (mostly) is able to view it, so it seems only fair to have my input in a community in which i belong.--Tspshilt 12:26, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I appreciate your honesty. Declaring your point of view is great and not a barrier to editing wiki at all (we all have biases, being open about them is the issue!). I also appreciate and admire your view on the quasi vandalism that takes place. So for me - trying to stand back - leave it as it is for now but think about it. Is there other information about your school that should be there and is the network bit overly long? (& are there other things you could contribute to?) As a sideline the open source issues I sympathise with - most of what I use is open source! - take care and if you want me you know where I am -- Nigel (Talk) 12:50, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the articles fine; mentioning the other activities run within the school is completely justified. As for it being advertising for the school, thats totally ridicolous - which parts would you remove? The only bits that dont have a place are things like "network issues" and "new lockers". Immanuel goldstein

I agree with beneaththelandslide. This school has many problems and Mr Knight has a history of poor funding decisions, such as advertising that the proceeds from a fundraiser would help fix the toilet, yet the money instead going to new LCD screens placed above several walkways that have spent most of the year inactive. Maybe this wasn't his personal decision, but the school has made many poor choices in recent years, yet this artical seems to be incredibly in favour of the school.Darkcraft 02:50, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the problem michaelj was pointing out - the screens for example, where funded by a grant from the commonwealth bank - this page cant just be a rumourmill! [User:Immanuel_Goldstein]]

The History section of the article includes recent changes. Given that some of these changes are superficial, they barely merit being under a history heading, not to mention that being posted as recent changes automatically classes (in my opinion) as being somewhat promotional. If changes (major, please) from throughout the life of the school were listed, such a list (without "recent") would be justifiable. Tspshilt 11:20, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions

[edit]

I have many a suggestion for this page, but for which I do not have exact information, or am rather not willing to add, as i have already flodded this page with edits, mainly as a cause of rethinking what to write. 1. Disclose staff numbers too, as teachers do make a difference. (edit: Faculty may also refer to staff number, my mistake, tspshilt). 2. School opening hours, for enquiries and access times. 3. Transport to the school. 4. Other schools in the area, because this is not an advertising service. --Tspshilt 09:37, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

5. Structural layout of the school? I'm a year 12 at the school so I may be of help Sensei baka 02:15, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For staff numbers, I'd have to consult a friend who knows how many there are. School opening hours are quite easy as well, transport to the school is also a breeze. There are also buses which depart the school if it counts? And other schools, can they include just high schools or also include primary schools? AshesToAshton (talk) 07:35, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a year 9 at this school, so I may be of assistance? sven the llama

All good ideas - but seriously tspshilt you dont need to write about all other schools in the area - its probably part of the relevant category. Thats like saying you can't write about one public library without writing about all the other libraries. User:Immanuel_Goldstein

It's been a while since I saw this page, and it is a great shame than no REAL improvements have been made to this page, ie, none (with the exception of staff numbers, but this was pointless anyway) of the suggestions made have been implemented. I do not intend to modify this page, as I get the feeling that this page is guarded jealously by whomever wishes to keep the school in a good light, and thus keep only superficial information on it. Tspshilt 01:15, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Computer network issues

[edit]

edited the Network issues section to be more accurate and provide more information. Added 2005 issues to the subject, and nformation of what had happened. Moved and edited the line in the 2006 area about "HALO demo" to 2005 area, as that was the year when it occured the most. in fact I do not think the "HALO demo" was installed ever in 2006, as the switch from novell to windows (or microsoft), and the soonafter switch to BESS, both dissallowed unauthorised EXEs to be run. Sensei baka 02:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do not add any more of this unencylopedic, hearsay rubbish; it will be immediately deleted. Please contribute to the article in an appropriate fashion. michael talk 02:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Micheal: Why not? If true information is added without "HALO demo" crap (I do know who did that) I think it is relevant to the school. Black Flame talk 21st November 2006

I ask you, ever so politely, in the sweet, peaceful tone of the Virgin Mary, would you mention the playing of computer games on the University of Oxford (not that I'm comparing Glenunga to Oxford) page if some of their dropkicks were playing them? No. It is unencylopedic rubbish. If you want to heap shit on Glenunga, buy your own webdomain and do it there. michael talk 12:08, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - things dont qualify for an encyclopedia just because they are true. Superflous details like this are irrelevant. User:Immanuel_Goldstein
Will do. Not that I'd mention the Games, just the recent downtime and stability problems.Black Flame talk

Recently this term (term 2 2007) The network system moved back to novell, making heading of "moved off novel" redundant. Why this was posted mistyfies me as it is a mostly superficial change and could be considered something akin to slander. Thus I will remove it now. I am aware that I said that I was not intending to make changes, but in keeping the article correct at least, i will go ahead. While I am here, I would also like to point out the section on the SAA, which asides from being mildly irrelevant, removes the focus away from the school (note the student life section) and to the politics. If its politics that someone wishes to publicise, put it under a seperate heading. Tspshilt 11:11, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2010 September- School Network still does not function propely the interent is slow and does not work on a majority of laptops and netbooks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Josh hage (talkcontribs) 03:44, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even though it may come from personal experience, you will still need a reliable source which has reported on it. It should also be given space in the article only up to the limits of undue weight would permit. --TeaDrinker (talk) 17:16, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have a real issue with the claim that the school was established in 1903. Rubbish!! It was established in 1964 with the demise of Adelaide Technical High School. There is no way ATHS and Glenunga High School were one and the same. When ATHS was closed down and most of the Staff and those students who were unlucky enough to still be there were moved to Glenunga under the Department of Education the standard of teaching went to an all time low. (an indisputable, proven fact) The standard of new students became an all time low. Being one of the unlucky ones I attended both schools and witnessed the end of ATHS. Using the high standard of ATHS to sell the Glenunga International High School is just pathetic, although obvious; who would want to use Glenunga High as its only history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.130.3.98 (talk) 11:16, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

One of the best schools in Adelaide?

[edit]

How is this defined? How do they know that their school is one of the leading public schools of the state? If there is a site on the rankings of school, please tell me.

Well, our staff (or at least our principal) assert how excellent we are. It certainly needs to be verifiable, but he seems to have a lot of figures regarding our uncharacteristic-for-a-state-school academic achievements. It's possible, though, that he turns red whenever he fibs. I may look into it the next time that I don't do the 'better things to do' which I always have.--The Chairman (talk · contribs) 13:57, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The 2010-03-16 election campaign announcement by Premier Rann of an additional $60m funding for Adelaide, Marryatville, Glenunga International and Brighton high schools was widely seen as increased funding for Adelaide's most highly regarded public high schools (eg, by ABC891 Morning Show "Spin Cycle" commentators). "Highly regarded" is the preferred term. To understand the distinction, Salisbury High has often been seen as Adelaide's "best-performing" high school because of its high results from non-selective pupils from a deprived area of Adelaide without the benefit of the additional funding directed at specialist schools like Glenunga. Gdt (talk) 18:27, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are multiple websites that say Glenunga International High School is in the Top 10 high schools of South Australia, peaking at #9.
Or at least that's what my friends told me. AshesToAshton (talk) 07:40, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 10:15, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please add Leanne Choo to the Notable alumni and add that she has represented Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in badminton and made the quarterfinals in Women's Doubles. She is also considered the most successful junior athlete in Australia in badminton by winning all 3 national tittles at the age of 14. She also became the No 1 ranked in Australia at the age of 16years old. http://www.badminton.org.au/index.php?id=240

Neutrality (Again)

[edit]

I think we need to further discuss the article's neutrality. Personally I do not see any problems with the article, as the new improvements seem to me like they should be listed in the school's history. I think the best solution here is just to remove the whole section on the recent changes so the section ends at "... it is suffering similar space issues to its predecessor." I will go about this change in a couple weeks if there are no objections. Ravens freak0624 (talk) 22:35, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated information

[edit]

GIHS changes frequently, especially in regards to school branding, but also in relation to other aspects described in this article. For instance, the logo depicted in the article has recently (15 Feb 2023) been replaced. There is information in the article which should preferably be prefixed with the year the information was accurate in, because it is information that may become outdated quickly. Although I will fix these issues, I suppose this is something that should be kept in mind for future edits as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kvop (talkcontribs) 07:46, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
